Pre production Veteran Documentry

Donation protected

On June 27th 2017, My former partner Jesse Stephen Bird took his life. He was a Veteran in the Australian Army.

In the last few months since his passing I have been on radio, in the paper, spoken at the RSL National Conference in Canberra, met with the Minister of Veterans Affairs Dan Tehan, spoken with front and back bench Senators of the Australian Parliament and have befriended thousands of beautiful strangers both Veteran & civilian's on social media. I am not going away!

This journey began when I wrote a submission to the senate inquiry into Suicide by Veteras & Ex Service Personel. Here i told our story and the lack of support Jesse and i recieved, in effect ending our relationship and less than a year on, him choosing to end his life.
(You can find my submission via the link below: number 433)

My aim is this: Document the change or lack there of over the course of a period of time and hold the government acountable to the change they keep telling us they "WILL BE" making. I will be meeting in Canberra with DVA and continuing my advocacy. Along the way i will be meeting with Veteran communities in each state, thier loved ones and telling thier story, the people will speak. There is a disconnect between the government and the veteran community and we all know why. Veterans need to begin to trust again and our government needs to stop sweeping veterans issues to the side.
I lost Jesse and in effect everything  because his job which was going to.war to protect us all. Our government must acknowledge every single member of the Australian Army who needs a hand and be able to respond accordingly, otherwisr step aside and let us do it. Veteran suicide in Australia could be 0 but earlier this week that number climbed to 70.  I will share with Australia the silent pain we dont see, I will unite our veteran and civillian community through this, I will hold government officials and individuals to account in the name of change.

The documentry will aim to achieve the following objectives:

-Follow the progress of the Senate inquiry recommendations (November 15th to roll out some/all recommendations)

-Interviewing Veterans's, partner's, ESO's, Government, Advocates & alike.

-Documenting the unseen story of what a veteran goes through (for civilians) and seeing where government is getting it wrong. No longer should we be working from the top down, instead hearing from the people who are affected most.

-Employ a producer/director and editor and investigative journalist

-Doumenting the progress of advocacy and change/lack there of.

-As much as possible I will be asking for voluntry support, but pre production costs that cant be avoided i.e camera/equiptment, professional assistance to produce, and edit the film, marketing, website/ logo design and travel expenses to meet with veteran groups at each state of Australia.

Please help me to continue this work in the name of change for our lost loves and living Veteran's.
