Vern Hedquist passed away tragically on October 2 while performing geotechnical evaluation on I-94. Vern began his career at WSB in 2014. Prior to that, Vern was employed at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) since 1991. On the day of his passing, Vern was working as part of a team collecting important data for an upcoming DOT project. Vern loved working as a team and was doing his job when the accident occurred.
Vern’s family included his wife, Cindy, and several four-legged and furry children. In his time outside of work, Vern loved to hunt pheasant and deer and taught adult Sunday school at their church. During his tenure at WSB, Vern liked personal interactions and was always attentive in conversations. He enjoyed learning and was very curious about everything in his life.
When asked about her husband, Cindy said, “My Vern loved life!” As we remember Vern, we are glad that he lived his life to the fullest considering that it was cut way too short.
We are establishing this fund to help Cindy as she begins her journey without her husband, Vern. No one ever plans for this and we hope that we can find a way to ease some of Cindy’s pain. Please give what you can and know that you are contributing to the legacy of Vern’s life. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
