So grooming has begun at Mud Pond and we just received the OK to groom trails at Shelburne Sugarworks on Shelburne Falls Road as well.  This is mixed network of singletrack, doubletrack and open meadow riding. It’s very scenic and a perfect spot for entry-level riders and families. It’s also the perfect place to take family or friends in the Spring and Fall when they’re serving homemade maple creemees that are fantastic!  We’re working on opening two other networks currently and will update as soon as we have more info.

I’ve gotten very positive feedback from a variety of users on the grooming happening at Mud Pond and not just from bikers. Riding groomed trails is a completely different experience and that keeps the trails rideable no matter the weather does and opens up the activity to riders of all skill levels.  I update the Facebook page each time I groom.

If you’re just joining us we ran a successful campaign to raise funds to buy a Snowdog Tracksled and have begun grooming trails for all to enjoy.  As often seems to happen  the budget was exceeded and the I’ve covered the overage for now which is about $1300.00.  Those costs came out of the grooming sled that was built for the task and some modifications that were done to make the machine safer and more easy to manage.

So if you’re new to the group or were  consideting donating but hadn’t gotten around to it please think about contributing. I ask every donor what networks they would like to open up for winter riding and then work towards opening up that terrain if possible. Thanks to all who have already contributed and helped make this a success.  We’re nudging up on 600 members in Vermont Fatbike and we managed to reach that initial goal with just 53 donors. Hoping there are some more folks willing to contribute.  Thanks all.  Please feel free to ask any questions you like.

I’d just like to take a moment to thank Christine and Dan Smith,James Mix,Forrest Andersen,Sean Melinn,Tim and Tracy Hunt,Evan Morrison,Cory Coffey,TJ Kingsbury,Andy Elliston and Rosy Metcalfe for their generous donations to the groomer fund. I’m not even sure Rosy owns a fatbike so that’s generosity! We’re at about $2700 so well on our way to opening up more groomed terrain here in Chittenden County. Thanks everyone. Please continue to share the campaign with any folks you think might be interested.

I have some exciting news to share. Last week Mickey Stone and I met with the kind folks at the Williston Conservation Commission and they have given us the go-ahead to groom the trails at Mud Pond. Mud Pond is one of the best networks in Chittenden County for fatbiking given the slope, terrain and the ability to effectively groom the trails with a Snowdog. I’m also working on permissions for two other local networks and will keep the group updated as soon as I have something.

We’re a little less than halfway to funding the Snowdog machine and we’ve achieved that with only 21 donations(thank you contributors). We currently have more than 450 members in Vermont Fatbike group so I’m hopeful that we can fund the machine quickly and begin grooming for all to enjoy. Those of you who have ridden Saxon Hill recently will agree the quality of the riding can be be pretty incredible once trail grooming is happening.

Please consider making a contribution to the Snowdog GoFundMe account. Thanks.
