Did you know in the USA alone approximately 600,000 people annually experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) third leading cause of death and only one in Ten survive?

We did not know either until we lost Venkatesh Veeravalli (29) one of the most caring people we have ever known. He passed away on the Night of 02/09/2018 leaving behind a devastated 25-year-old wife. He suffered a Sudden Cardiac arrest(SCA) at such a young age and left his parents, friends, and family in a shock.

SCA can occur to anyone at any age without any reason or warning, one just collapses. SCA is different from a heart attack. While in case of a heart attack- the victim is awake and the heart continues to beat, it's not the same with SCA, the victim could be asleep and the heart stops beating, blood stops flowing to the brain & the heart, and eventually to the rest of the body, and the person collapses.

After Work on a casual Friday evening, Venkatesh dozed off into sleep feeling tired, and woke up from sleep as he couldn’t breathe and passed away due to severe cardiac arrest. First responders at the scene worked for well over an hour trying to revive Venkatesh by CPR & using Defibrillator and later was transported to Robert Wood Johnson hospital NJ where he was pronounced to be un-responsive and announced his demise.

We are all shocked and dumbfounded and in quest of answers about what & why it happened to Venky, him being most active, health conscious & was a regular to the gym. We forced ourselves to search for answers on the web. Thus, we stumbled upon SCAF (Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation)  a nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent death and disability from SCA and raise awareness about the sudden cardiac arrest to help save such innocent lives.

When you (bystanders) provide CPR and use automated external defibrillators before EMS arrives, about 40 percent of victims survive. If the national survival rate increased to 40 percent, about 100,000 additional people could be saved each year. Please Help SCAF by donating and help them continue to provide awareness about SCA in fond memory of our Venkatesh Veeravalli.
