Rachel's Balinese Adventure

My name is Rachel, and I'm a local Las Vegas poet, singer, activist, and community organizer. I love hosting and attending open mics, planning events with the Las Vegas Poets Organization, gardening, and traveling.
After growing up in a Military family, I feel travel is an essential part of creating a well-rounded human experience. Both of my parents were Active-duty Navy, and my mother was usually deployed or stationed far away. Although she was gone, I developed a love for the countries she would send me letters about, and even moreso when she would send a gift that I could link to her beautiful stories.
I remember tearing open a tightly sealed cardboard box to find a pink and yellow kimono when I was eight, or a small wooden jewelry box, things I still hold close to my heart today. receiving those things and knowing my mother had picked them out herself, thousands of miles away, made me feel closer to her when missing her felt too much.
Now that I'm an adult, I desire to travel as much as possible, and see things for myself outside of my own culture, to expand my awareness of the world around me.
On August 25th, I'll be traveling to Bali in Indonesia for a month. In a similar vein of joy to the one I experienced as a child, I'd like to make you an offer: In exchange for your contribution, I'm offering a variety of traditional Balinese gifts, and/or customized poems of your topic, story, or motif (no hate speech). You are welcome to donate as a way of getting a gift for someone you care about.
The money donated will be used to help me afford food and lodging, and any extra money will be used to travel to Temples, villages outside the main cities, and to pay the local Balinese for tours, history of their land, and history of their culture.
Although I will be leaving the 25th of August, donations with requests can be made up until the 15th of September. I will be able to access the internet in larger cities to accept donations and requests.
This trip, and your donations are meaningful to me as I learn to pursue the life experiences I desire, connect with my deeper self, my past joys, and learn to overcome the fear of asking for what I need to make my dreams reality.
