Hi! My name is Vee. I run GayYA.Org , and am on Twitter at @findmereading . I am eighteen years old and love books, writing, and LGBTQIA+ Young Adult lit.
Book Expo America is a huge publishing event that a lot of authors, librarians, bloggers, and more attend. This year it's in Chicago, which is much easier to get to for me than the other locations it has been held. I have been planning on going to BEA16 for awhile. Unfortunately, my family's financial situation recently took an unexpected turn for the worse, and they won't be able to help me fund any of the trip. So, I'm currently scrambling to find another way to still make it happen! BEA is in early May. I'm planning on cramming a whole ton of work into the next few weeks, but I'm going to need all the help I can get to make this trip possible.
I'm hoping to raise $243, which will cover my "Publishing Professionals" 3-day badge for the conference and a ticket to the Children's Book and Author Breakfast. If I end up raising more than that amount, it will go towards food and transportation. Someone has kindly agreed to let me stay with them, so I won't need to pay for lodging.
Early bird pricing (which is $100 cheaper) expires on April 25th, so I'm hoping to be able to raise the full $243 by then.
It has been a dream of mine to go to BEA since I got super involved in the literary community two years ago. I have a number of online fellow teen blogger friends going this year that I would LOVE to meet, and there's of course a ton of excellent authors (like David Levithan and Nina Lacour, aaah!!) that it would mean so much to me to be able to see.
It would mean everything to me to be able to go to this conference, and I'd be so grateful to anyone who's able to contribute anything (or even just share this campaign!). Thank you all so, so much in advance!
