Help For Veda Dawn...

Thursday morning, our beloved sassy-sweet “red-dog” collapsed without any prior warning. She became immobile and lost bladder control.

I called my wife Amber, to let her know what was happening so that she could drive back from work in Los Angeles to be with her sweet girl and soulmate.

Upon arrival at the veterinary hospital, a fairly large mass was located on Veda’s spleen. She needed emergency surgery immediately. We called the only angel we knew who had the great fortune of being able to help cover such a large procedure. She approved the estimate and we sent Veda back to surgery.

As Veda's surgery began, we received a text from our oldest son with a picture attached of a large fire burning on the hill in front of our apartment complex. I left to evacuate our family. It took about 3 hours for us to get back to Amber’s side.

Amber let us know that while we were gone, Veda had coded mid-surgery and CPR was performed to get her heart restarted. She was now having a hard time coming out of the anesthesia post-surgery and her vitals were very erratic.

We gave Veda kisses, and left her in the doctor’s hands for the night. At 11PM we received a call to let us know that the hospital was being evacuated, and that the surgeon and her tech were personally relocating Veda to a clinic outside the fire line.

About 6AM we were informed that the emergency supplies the doctor had brought with her were dwindling and that internet/phone services were down requiring Veda to be moved yet again.

Veda has now been resting at the same hospital for 48 hours and making significant progress. She is holding healthy vitals, has been able to stand on her own and has even taken herself outside to go to the bathroom. Our family could not be more relieved and elated for our baby to be so close to coming back home to us.

Due to the multiple transfers and the length of care it has taken to get Veda stabilized post-surgery, the initial $6000 high-estimate for care has grown exponentially to nearly double that. We are asking if you or your family might be able to assist in Veda’s healing. It takes a village to care for one another, and we are asking you to be a part of ours. Veda is nearly out of the woods, but will require after-care when she comes home. We appreciate any help you might be able to provide. Thank you all so much, we can not wait to get our girl back home.

Sincerely,
