Walking with Anna

So many people have already contributed in so many ways during Anna's on-going recovery: cards, letters, meals, gifts, visits, and more. People continue to ask how they can do more so we are raising funds for our out of pocket costs associated with Anna's accident and recovery. We will have at least $10K in out of pocket costs between insurance out of pocket payments, co-pays, and items insurance doesn't cover: wheelchair transport, miscellaneous medical supplies, therapy supplies, non-emergency ambulance transport, etc. Insurance just doesn't cover these necessities.

Anna's Story
On November 15, 2015 Anna was involved in a horrific car accident. She was struck head on at highway speed by a wrong way elderly driver on Highway 10 near Waupaca.

Anna received life threatening injuries and was taken by flight for life to the nearest trauma hospital - Theda Clark in Neenah. Anna was in ICU for over a week and required three major surgeries totaling more than 20 hours in her first five days in the hospital. These surgeries were required to repair all of the damage done in the accident.

When Anna was struck by the wrong way driver the steering wheel was driven through her midsection rupturing her diaphragm, collapsing her lung, breaking her pelvis and sacrum in multiple places, and breaking her right wrist and right arm including one bone breaking through her skin. In addition, the dashboard also caved in and crushed her left leg breaking the femur in three pieces and shattering the middle piece in to many pieces. However, the biggest issue Anna has is nerve damage to her left leg. Doctors are saying it may be two years to determine how much range of motion, strength, and sensitivity will come back to this leg. This is where most of her daily pain comes from and is hard to control.

We are so thankful that Anna survived and all of her injuries are treatable. While her injuries are no longer life threatening they are life altering. Anna will again have to learn how to walk and will undergo thousands of hours of therapy in order to get back functionality of her injured limbs.
