Appeal Option 5 School Closures

North Carroll High School (along with New Windsor Middle and Charles Carroll Elementary) has been targeted for closure. This decision will negatively impact the community of Hampstead and Manchester, as well as other areas of Carroll County, specifically students, parents, teachers, staff, coaches, residents and the businesses.
North Carroll is a vital part of our community in Hampstead with 60 years of history. If BOE continues with Option 5, students will be merged together in one school creating a situation of overcrowding, which will compromise learning and extracurricular opportunities for students from both North Carroll High and Manchester Valley High. Many teachers and staff members from both schools will lose their employment. Parents of Hampstead students will have less opportunity to be part of their children's educational and extracurricular experiences. Commute times will increase and the traffic into and out of Manchester at certain times of day will be challenging to say the least. The home values of Hampstead will certainly decline as the high school and its location provides a unique selling point for realtors when "selling" Hampstead. Local businesses will suffer as families spend less time in our community. Some restaurants in town receive much of their business from the concessions they provide at the high school sporting and extracurricular events, plus the patronage afterwards.
Manchester will also be negatively impacted as adding over 700 teenagers to Manchester Valley will certainly challenge the sewer and water systems of the town. There may also be an obligation to hire additional police.
For all of these reasons and more, an appeal is being filed, challenging the Board of Education decision to close these schools. In order to maximize our chances of winning this appeal, we are reaching out for financial contributions to help with legal and other fees associated with the appeal. Any donation would be helpful, and appreciated, no matter how small. Please consider donating to this cause to save our Carroll County schools.
