ACF National has endorsed Mr. Patrick O Brien to manage, select and train Australia’s National Youth Culinary Team to compete in the 2016 Culinary Olympics to be held in Erfurt, Germany in October 2016. This competition is the premier event for young chefs run by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) and will attract the top 24 Youth Culinary Teams from around the world.

The team has been selected from junior chefs throughout Western Australia and since August 2015 has been in an intensive training program leading to the event. The Australian Youth team has, under this same management team, competed in the 2008 & 2012 Olympics achieving Gold and Silver medals on both occasions, and being respectively placed 6th and 7th in the world.

The team will also compete in the FHA Food Asia competition to be held in April 2016, where it will participate in the live buffet competition which is now a component of the Olympic competition.

The Culinary Olympics “Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung” (IKA) founded in 1896, is a time honoured global competition of culinary excellence. Held every four years and now based in Erfurt, Germany. The Culinary Olympics brings together the best chefs and culinary teams from around the world and serves as a world class venue to showcase contemporary culinary skills. The event will host 32 senior national teams, 24 youth national teams and regional teams, and individual competitors in a range of competitions. As the largest and most prestigious culinary competition in the world the IKA attracts considerable media and public attention.


The team members are all award winning junior chefs who have competed in the following competitions:

WA Oceanafest
WA Apprentice of the Year
WA Nestle Golden Chefs Hat Competition

Team members are required to furnish evidence of their achievements to date combined with evidence of support from employers, parents and their training providers. The team members have made a serious commitment to represent Australia and will be required to give up many hours of their personal time to achieve the highest standards possible.

Team Members,  Management and Support Crew are all volunteers who give their time with the one goal of winning Gold in Erfurt.

How the money will be used.
All funds raised will be used to cover the costs associated with training and sending the team across to Germany including airfares, accommodation, transportation, equipment, ingredients as well as the costs incurred for training sessions.

Should we be fortunate to exceed our Goal Total all excess monies will be used to fund the future development of young chefs in Western Australia.

Your Support is needed.
As we get closer to October flights and accommodations need to be booked and deposits paid.  To ensure the team can solely concentrate on the kitchen activities we have gone World Wide in the hope that you can assist us with the fundraising activities.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Chefs, Apprentices and Supporters of the Australian Youth Team. It is with great pleasure, though long overdue that the Team and Management introduce to you the Team's Charge D'Affaire: Chef Michael Strautmanis.

As Chef Michael would say the title Charge D'Affaire refers to a Diplomat who heads an embassy in the absence of the Ambassador. In this case, while the team is competing he will be their representative outside of the kitchen arena.

He is one of the most forward thinking Chefs we have had the pleasure to work with, has the most amazing talent of combining ingredients and cookery methods. He is passionate about training the youth of today to become outstanding Chefs of tomorrow.

Michael has been involved in the hospitality industry at various levels for well over fifty years, and in the area of formal hospitality education for the past 33 years.
