Vanessa, Ness, Nessa, Bobo… You were the first girl crush I had ahaha. I was the puny ninth grader in the locker room reluctantly going to P.E. and you were the tall, quiet track star with long flat-ironed hair who was getting ready for practice. I didn’t really hang out with you in high school, mostly knew you from hanging out with my cousin Tierra and your sisters Beverly and Brandi. We would hang out at your house after school. Flash forward to like 12-years later and my girlfriend is randomly talking about a Vanessa at work –no clue it was you until one day she said Bobo. There is no other Vanessa Bobo ha. One year later, 2015 I’m working at Dexcom with you –except you’re on maternity leave. Every day I walked by your desk and every day it stood out, with all of the colorful pictures and your animal hat-scarf thingy. Eventually you gave birth and you came back to Dexcom. You, my high school friend, coworker and (as you’d say) Kymmie and I’s “work wife.” We were always cracking jokes on one another, about others (Q-tip ahaha) and we were always at each other’s desk. Constantly putting people on hold so we can hold our own conversations. I’m so glad I passed up another night out in Hillcrest, so we can hang out the other month. We talked about so much that we ended up parked outside of my apartment for like an hour! I’m SO sorry I never saved any of our Snapchat pics of us, I regret it SO MUCH. Furthermore, I’m SO sorry I didn’t get to respond to you when you messaged my Monday/Tuesday right before your death. It is my HUGEST regret. I go back into my Snapchat account and just stare at your unopened snap, like it’s the last bit of you that I can hold onto… It is insane to me that the same day you started texting me, I started having dreams of domestic violence. These dreams consisted of my former abusive relationship and the other two were me witnessing and trying to help others. I woke up Kymmie to vent to her about my dreams. At 5 a.m. on Wednesday I woke up with a panic attack, only to find out an hour later that you’re gone. In denial, because we just talked, I messaged you- c’mon who is spreading these rumors? Right. A true premonition and it frustrates me that despite the signs, none of them pointed me to you. I wish I would’ve dug a little deeper, I wish you would’ve told me. I’ve been there. I’ve been there.
