Valerie Fowler's Medical Bills

Donation protected
My name is Jeanette and I'd like you to meet my little sister, Valerie.  We grew up in sunny southern California with our parents and younger brother, David.  I wish I could say Val and I have always been best friends but the truth is I spent more time putting lady bugs in her hair as a young child than actually engaging in play with her.  I'm working on making up for that, though, and thankfully I can say we are very close now.  Despite my antics, we spent plenty of time outside playing and doing crafts with our mom who ran a daycare out of our suburban home.  Ahhh, childhood before the internet and Netflix.  It was good.

As the years went on I graduated high school, joined the Air Force, and left home, leaving my younger sister and brother behind.  I feel like I missed out on a lot by moving so far away, but nonetheless it was time for me to spread my wings so, off I went.  More time passed and eventually the rest of our family moved to Round Rock, TX.  It quickly became "home", even if I never officially lived there.  David graduated high school, then Valerie moved out, married a man named Kirk, and before we knew it they had two goofy, fun loving children, Hailee and Tyler.  I always knew she'd be the first to have kids.
The Fowlers currently reside in Ganado, TX, where Kirk works in the family business and Valerie is a stay at home mom and homemaker.  Life was good in the Fowler house.

And then one day it got even better.  They learned they were expecting! But the surprises didn't stop there. Valerie and Kirk soon found out they were expecting not one, but TWO babies!  A boy and a girl.  They were ecstatic.

Now, you should understand it's part of our family history to have big babies.  Our father was almost 13lbs and all three of us were big babies, too.  Valerie's first two came in at 9 and 10+lbs, so we were all anxious to see how the twins would progress.  Well, they didn't disappoint!  Keeping with family tradition, after 38 long, difficult, excruciating weeks of pregnancy, Valerie gave birth via c-section on December 23rd to Lilly and Levi, who came into the world at a whopping 8.2 and 9.3lbs respectively.  Impressive, to say the least!  And just absolutely beautiful, wouldn't you say?

The twins have done fantastic.  Perfect, BIG, healthy twins.  But, unfortunately, their mom didn't fare as well.  During the delivery of the second baby Valerie suffered a pulmonary embolism and had a very close call.   She was recussitated, moved to recovery and slowly began to regain some strength over the next couple of days and was eventually able to hold the babies.

Then, on December 26th, the day after Christmas, we learned that the fight wasn't over yet.  Pre-discharge tests and scans revealed the cause of her embolism, a blood clot in her lung, along with another larger, life threatning clot in her Vena Cava that would go straight to her heart should it became dislodged.  As a mother of four with twins only days old, who she has only held a couple of times, she was devastated.  We all were.   She was transfered from the birthing center to a larger hospital by ambulance and admitted to the ICU.  There she spent a very difficult couple of days waiting on test results, celebrating her 30th birthday, and waiting some more.  Ultimately a specialist determined that she would need to be flown via Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX where a cardiothorasic surgeon would remove the clot surgically.

Sigh....  So, here we are.  She just landed in Houston and is settling into a new ICU room.  Her husband and our mother should be there any minute.  Thank GOD that family and friends are chipping in around the clock to care for the two older children and the newborn twins at home.  They are all doing very well, but the big kids are anxious to have Mom home and I'm sure the twins would just like to get to know her.  As she would them.

It's going to be a long road ahead.  She will need surgery, several days in the hospital afterward, and an extended recovery at home.  None of this is what anyone imagines when they recieve the joyous new that their family is about to grow by two (or four) more feet.

As much as it is breaking my heart, I have decided not to make the pilgrimage from Moore, OK just yet because all but one one member of my little family (myself included) is currently contagious with one virus or another and my presence would only further compromise her health.  I'll get there as soon as I safely can. Determined to do something to help in the meantime though, I am setting up this page.

With three different hospitals/facilities, an ambulance, a helicopter, two surgeries, CT scans, cardiothorasic surgeons, and inpatient care for her and the twins, already on the tab, I can only imagine what medical bills might look like, even with insurance.

What I am asking for is for you to prayerfully consider making a donation toward helping this family get back on their feet.  As a single income household of six, a large ongoing medical payment just isn't something that is in the budget.  Knowing that there is help on the way to cover these expenses, along with other miscellaneous expenses they incur during the recovery process, will allow both Val and Kirk to keep their focus right where it should be - on a complete and full recovery so that Valerie can come back home to all four of those precious kiddos and watch them grow for years and decades to come.

Every dollar raised will go towards medical bills and miscellaneous expenses.  This may include helping to pay some of the regular monthly utilities, grocery bills, child care, etc.  Kirk will likely be out of work for a while to aid in Valerie's recovery, although we hope it won't be for too long.  Medical bills will likely not show up for a little while since Valerie is still hospitalized and receiving treatment, but the babies won't wait for her to get home and get well before they will need boat loads of more diapers and formula.  So they really do need help sooner than later.

A lot of people have asked how they can help, so here you go.  First and foremost, you can help us by praying to God for full and complete healing in HIS holy name.  And secondly, you can support their family by making a donation.

Valerie was very young when she learned that she was expecting their first child, but she never, ever questioned putting the needs of her baby before herself or the plans she may have had.  She is a selfless, ever-giving person, a steadfast believer in the Lord, loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister.  And she is standing strong in her faith through all of this.  Please help me help my only sister and her family by showing them that they aren't alone in this fight.  Please join me in prayer and donation.

If for nothing else than taking the time to read her story, thank you, from the bottom of my hopeful big sister heart.   And please feel free to share, share, SHARE!
