Val Suriano Music Education Bursary

On Sunday January 8, 2017 my father, Val Suriano passed away.  He was a man who lived life to the fullest and had an insatiable love of music.  While he was proficient with many instruments, he was first and foremost a Sax player. 

Once he discovered the Sax he would do anything for the opportunity to play.  At a young age he joined the Army Cadets just to try and get a shot at playing in their band.  He played in many local groups in Sault Ste Marie.  He played countless night clubs and bars, weddings and festivals.  He played in orchestras and conducted as well.  His love of music was deeply ingrained and if you ever had the opportunity to see him play, you could literally feel that eminating from him. 

After my father passed, I was told by countless people what a talented musician he was.  He was compared to the great Stan Getz, who was his idol.  After hearing all of this and listening to his music, I came to realize that I didn't really comprehend how talented my father was because throughout my life, that music was always there. 

My father believed that "The most beautiful thing about Music is that it never ends".  We would like to help see to that with these donations.  All funds raised will be given to Korah Collegiate High School in Sault Ste Marie where they will create the Val Suriano Music Award.  The criteria will be that it is awarded to a graduate who has been accepted to a post secondary music program with the goal of pursuing a career in the music.  Depending on the level of donations that we raise, we may be able to present this award for years to come. 

I cannot think of a more fitting way to honor the life of my father than to help the next generation of musicians pursue their dreams.  By doing this, we will all ensure that the Music will Never End!
