The midwives in Arizona are struggling to continue to provide safe care due to the current rules as they are written, interpreted, and enforced by the Arizona Department of Health.
Stephanie Soderblom is a licensed midwife in Mesa who has dedicated her life to midwifery and serving Arizona families so that they may have safe and healthy homebirths. The Az Dept of Health alleges that Stephanie broke a rule by attending a birth that was "over 42 weeks gestation" and are attempting to suspend her midwifery license.
The ultrasound that the woman received during pregnancy showed a very different due date than her "last menstrual period" date - but the rules for Arizona state gestation as only "from last normal menstrual period" and offer no other method for calculating an estimated due date. They have chosen to disregard the ultrasound information and are continuing with the enforcement action.
A lawyer has been retained to fight these allegations. Please help Stephanie and other Arizona midwives with legal costs that will likely be accrued. 100% of the funds gathered will go towards legal fees for Stephanie and any other midwife with enforcement actions - so please help!
