In the early morning hours on January 31st, 2016, I lost my best friend, life partner and daughter's father David "Mikey" Eminess in the unfortunate events that took place on Spadina Avenue & Nassau St at New Ho King Restaurant in Toronto. My husband was a victim and lost his young life in a moment and decision that has forever altered my life and the lives around him of those he came into contact with. It did not occur to me that he would leave me that fateful morning and never again would my family see his smiling face.
Mikey came to Toronto 8 years ago ambitious and wanting to improve his circumstances. He applied to the University of Toronto where he received a certificate for the humanities program and we were well on our way to building a meaningful and successful future for ourselves. I was fortunate enough to have him in my life and I can only be thankful that he departed this world and left me with a blessing, who is now 18 months old. Mikey loved us unconditionally and we all loved him more and more as each day went by. Mikey had the power to touch everyone with his infectious smile and his passion for appreciating everything life had to offer. His constant reminder to us was to appreciate the life we are given, because things happen for a reason, people may remain in your life for a season, but each lesson and experience is a blessing.
I pray that my daughter will be able to know all the lives her father impacted in his time on the earth, and our family . Our daughter meant the world to Mikey and he meant just as much to her. It is unfair to think that she will now have to grow up without the unconditional love of her father.
In this difficult time, we are asking for donations to help cover Mikey's funeral costs along with his daughter's future and education. Mikey gave unconditionally to all those who crossed his path and we would like to give him the farewell he deserves.
This unfortunate event has left me feeling overwhelmed and deeply saddened, as Mikey and I both actively participated in the upbringing of our daughter. I am now a single parent and I would be so grateful to receieve assistance with these costs. Donations of any kind will be greatly appreciated and I thank you for your continued support.
