HELP THUY NGUYEN BEAT HER CANCER

Hi, let me introduce myself, my name is Julie Nguyen and I am 19 years old. I am the daughter of Thuy Nguyen, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, with multiple brain metastases. The cancer in her lungs and brain have been progressing very quickly, which means that she does not have much time left. My family is hoping to send my mom to the Hope4Cancer Clinic in Cancun, as soon as possible, for a 3-5 week treatment. Therefore, we are in URGENT need of your help to raise enough money in hopes of saving her life.

The proceeds will go towards the following treatments:

·      Photodynamic Therapy
·      Hyperthermia (supportive therapy)
·      Ozone Therapy
·      Targeted Supplementation
·      Sunivera Immunotherapy Program
·      IV Anti-Cancer Program
·      Near Infrared Lamp
·      Pulse Electric Field Therapy
·      Ultra-Violet Biological Irradiation (IVBI)
·      Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber (HBO2)
·      IV Treatments at the naturopathic clinic on a weekly basis in Canada

Any donation will be greatly appreciated, and your kindness will not be forgotten in an extremely difficult, as well as mentally exhausting time in our lives. We are still in shock that this has happened to my mom and are determined to do whatever it takes to save her life. Please help my loving mother get the treatment she deserves, so that she can overcome this battle.

Thuy’s Diagnosis Story

From June to August of 2018, Thuy started noticing symptoms of extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, chest pains and persistent dry coughs, which led her to the emergency room on August 9th. After numerous tests were conducted, x-ray results revealed that there were nodules all over her lungs. When the doctors told my mom that she either had lung disease or cancer, we were extremely fearful of the worst.

Since my mom lived her life as a non-smoker, and led a very healthy lifestyle, we could not fathom the thought of her having lung cancer. We waited anxiously as further testing was done to confirm what had caused the nodules. On the day of her follow-up appointment, my mom went to the hospital by herself to see the oncologist specialist. A biopsy tissue sample confirmed that she had stage 4 adenocarcinoma lung cancer. Later on, a CT scan revealed at least 18 brain metastases; my mom almost fainted to the ground when she heard the news.
I vividly remember the moment we were all at home, consoling my mom and crying. My brother told me not to cry in front of her, because it would make her feel sad. We had to be strong for my mom. I admire my mom’s strength and courage because since her diagnoses, she has not shed a single tear in front of us. She always cares about everyone else before herself, even when she is at the lowest point in her health. The news of her cancer was a shock for all of us; none of us understood much about cancer at the time.

As the days passed by, the hope in our hearts grew that my mom will beat her cancer, and the fire in us fueled the determination for us to do anything and everything to help her. We have had an extremely difficult journey filled with ups and downs, and we are going to give everything we have to make sure my mom has the best chance at beating cancer.

Thuy’s Journey from Vietnam to Canada

I want to give you a background story of who my mom is, and where she came from. She was born in Vietnam, in a city called Hai Phong. When my mom was 22 years old, she ran away from Vietnam with my dad to come to Canada, in hopes of having a better life. They had to sneak away by boat to Hong Kong; a trip that took approximately 1 month, where they endured terrible conditions, had little food, and there was not much else on the boat except for their dream to come to Canada. The only thing keeping their spirits lifted was the thought of being in Canada.

When they got to Hong Kong, they were put in a refugee camp for almost 1 year, before finally getting on a plane to come to Canada. Their first stop was Edmonton, where they started out with no money, were put in refugee status for a few years, and worked hard at numerous odd-end jobs, before being granted Canadian citizenship. My mom has always been a strong fighter and I think it comes from her strength and journey to Canada from Vietnam.

Thuy Today

Today my mom is a single parent, taking care of me while I’m in university, and is also a guardian parent to 2 children, who she has sponsored from Vietnam. Even though my mom does not have a lot, she consistently goes out of her way to provide what she can to those around her. She always has the best intentions and strives to practice her Catholic religion by being a kind, loving and giving person. Her amazing heart trickles down and is reflected in everything she does in life; everyone in my family recognizes this and looks up to her.

My mom is currently on Gefitinib EGFR inhibitor medication, to stop the growth of the cancer cells in her lungs. However, very little medication has been able to pass the brain barrier; consequently, the metastatic growth in her brain is continuing to spread. In the last 3 weeks, she has been vomiting and has lost a tremendous amount of weight. I fear that she will not make it much longer unless she gets the treatment that she needs. Her oncologist specialist believes the swelling in my mom’s brain could be a result of the constant vomiting. The longer we wait, the more the cancer is spreading throughout her brain, which is becoming extremely dangerous. I am fearful of what may happen if she does not get the much-needed treatment.

My mom has endured several devastating obstacles in her life, and beating cancer is what she wishes for with her heart and soul. As you can imagine, medical bills have become a massive burden and mental stress for my mom, who already has a lot to worry about. She has given to numerous people at every step of her life, and I am hopeful now for her to receive the help she needs to get through this tough time. We are doing everything we can to help her day-by-day, but we are asking, from the bottom of our hearts, for your help through donations. Please help bring the treatment to life at Hope4Cancer to save my mom from lung and brain cancer. We will be forever grateful for any and every donation. Thank you for all your love and support.
