Theavy's Literature Scholarship

Donation protected
Whether you are a lover of literature or simply a supporter of Global Children Cambodia, we hope you will consider donating to Global Children, so that Theavy can accept the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study Korean Literature she was specially selected for.

Please Note: This is a Global Children Cambodia fundraiser. All donations are tax-deductible to fullest extent permitted by law, and you will receive a receipt directly from Global Children.

Some of Global Children's friends and supporters may be familiar with Theavy Chhun, one of our wonderful students. Theavy grew up in the Kampong Cham Orphanage Center, where, thanks to the many visitors she and the orphans received, she developed an interest in the global community. Theavy became fascinated with other languages and cultures, and found that literature was the perfect way to access and further develop her interest in the world outside herself.  With the help of Global Children, Theavy enrolled at the RUPP Institute of Foreign Language, where she is currently a Korean Language and Literature Major.  Theavy says of her love for language "I feel like I can communicate with the world."  She plans to continue her studies in the hopes of becoming a tour guide and interpreter -- and share her love of literature.

Now, Theavy has received an opportunity that places her life dreams and goals even further within her reach. Theavy applied to a two-semester (10 month) long exchange program at the Dong-A University in Busan, near Seoul.  It is a highly competitive program, where students are hand-selected by their professors and must have rigorous training and qualifications within the field of Korean Literature.  She will increase her mastery of Korean Literature and Language, learn more about Korean History, and, most importantly, have access to the kind of global community of colleagues that promotes international discourse and furthers the mission of global literature -- to make overlooked or silenced voices not just heard, but empowered. Theavy will help to preserve and promote the voices of Korean writers throughout history.  Though some of the funding is provided by the Korean government, and she received a small scholarship, Theavy still needs to pay for her airfare, dorm rooms, books, food, and visa application.

Whether you are a lover of literature or simply a supporter of Global Children, we hope you will consider donating to Theavy's cause. She only needs $1,000, but we must act quickly before her opportunity passes.  Any excess of funds will go to support Global Children's Mission and Student House.             You once had a dream that could not have been achieved without the help and kindness of others. Extend that same support to Theavy today.
