'On Life and Living' is a new documentary play written by Casey Stainsby, Amy Collier and Adjani Poirier and directed by Lorna Craig. Based on interviews of past and present AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM) members, staff and volunteers, ‘On Life and Living’ weaves together a story of the organization’s history using memories as a primary source. The play follows eight semi-fictionalized characters over a period of twenty-eight years as they recall their first encounters with the organization, experience some of ACCM’s pivotal moments, and grapple with the changing face of HIV/AIDS in Montreal.

This project has been in development since the fall of 2013 under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Viviane Namaste (Concordia University Research Chair in HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health) and Dr. Edward Little (Professor and Chair, Theatre Department). Initially conceptualized through an independent study at Concordia University, ‘On Life and Living’ is now being pursued as an extracurricular project with a team made up of artists from the Concordia community, the ACCM community and the greater Montreal artistic community. We are thrilled to be working on a project that allows all of these communities to interact and be in dialogue with one another!

We wish to acknowledge the tremendous amount of time and effort that has been put into this project by the creative team by offering them each an honorarium. The amount of money is not reflective of the amount of hours the team will be giving to the project but rather reflects the symbolic notion that artists are deserving of being paid for their artistic practice.

This is where you come in! We have received support to produce the play from a number of generous funding organizations (listed below) but are still looking to raise $1250! The amount needed will be used to pay 5 of the cast and crew member’s each an honorarium of $250.

If you are in a position to support us financially any amount is deeply appreciated!

We're so grateful about the immense support we have received and would like to extend our campaign for a “stretch goal” of $1, 800 ($550 more than our original goal). This money will cover the following costs:

- $50 for an extra 2 hours of rehearsal a week for the next three weeks
- $200 more toward costumes
- $150 for cabs to transport costumes and props
- $150 for 5 years of maintaining a web archive of the audio from the interviews that informed the play
