UTSA Secular Student Alliance Fund

The Secular Student Alliance at UTSA is a growing group of Atheists, Agnostics, and Freethinkers of various religious and spiritual backgrounds. We are here to provide an alternative to the 33 religious organizations on campus, to fight the negative misconceptions about the lifestyle and morality of the nonreligious, and to promote scientific literacy and reason-based discussion on campus.
Since our founding in 2013, we have grown from a handful of students to a top attendance of 55 people! We have several expendatures, and they are growing along with our increase in numbers.  In the past, we have held several large events including two highly-attended panel disscusions among UTSA's religious organizations and a presentation from secular celebrity, Matt Dillahunty. This semester, we plan to raise the bar much higher.  With luck, we will be hosting David Silverman, the President of American Atheists and past guest on The Situation Room, The O'Reilly Factor, FOX and Friends, and several news programs. A handful of students also travel to attend off-campus events out of town like the Texas Secular Convention in Austin, TX and the Center for Inquiry Convention in Buffalo, NY. 
We will use our gofundme assistance to pay for supplies, large events, travel, t-shirts, and advertising. Our large events can include fees for deposits on room reservations, housekeeping, audience refreshments and snacks, and flight and hotel fees for guest speakers. For conference trips, transportation and entry fees are open to being absorbed by club funds when necessary. Our gofundme will assist our existing fundrasing events, where club funds go towards sanitary equipment, food and drink ingredients and advertising props. At a recent fundraising event, our supplies cost us almost $200. Towards the end of each semester, we provide our members with a club t-shirt. This semester's order reached $400. Because of popular demand, we have made a second order of an older shirt design, costing an extra $300. The gofundme funds will help offset this semester's two orders and our upcoming order in the spring. To promote our club, we have designed a large weather-proof banner. The lowest cost we have found so far is $200. Becuase of this, we will have to wait and heavily fundraise in spring to comfortably order it.
