We as fans have been patient with this rebuild to get to this point. Hayward and Gobert are the core of what could be a great team in coming years. Let's show Gordon how much he means to this city and fan base.
There is a billboard between the practice facility and the Vivint Smart Home Arena that we can rent for the entire month of May, which is perfect as the season will be winding down and free agency will be close to starting. I've been in contact with Yesco because this is a perfect location and time frame, but it is on a first come, first serve basis, so we need to act fast.
If 1/3 of the fans who attend a single game donate one dollar, we'd hit our goal. We can do this Jazz fans, let's do what we can to keep Hayward in Utah.
Find us on Facebook linked below or on twitter @utahjazz6man and remember to use #stayward on any posts.
If the goal is not met with a reasonable amount of time to carry out the plan, you will be refunded.
Update: Any funds raised over the cost of renting a billboard for one month will be donated to the campaign Gordon Hayward shared this morning which belongs to his friend, Erik Romm, on his quest to raise 100k for cancer research. Rest assured no one will profit a dollar from this.
As you know, my original plan was to donate to the campaign that Hayward tweeted out that was raising money for cancer research. I was able to talk to Erik, the guy being that campaign, but due to some timing issues of when this campaign would have all the funds available and when the deadline was for donations for his campaign, we weren't able to donate to that campaign. Believe me, I tried to find another way to donate to that campaign, but Erik told me there was no way to donate after the campaign deadline.
That being said, I still wanted to donate to a cancer research fund. For those of you who haven't heard, "5 For The Fight" is the name of the cause the Jazz have teamed up with for the patch on their jerseys for the next few years. It's an organization that encourages people to donate five dollars to cancer research, and 100% of donated funds go to that cause.
This seemed like a perfect place to funnel our extra funds. Yesterday I was able to meet with Mike Maughan of 5 for the Fight and make a donation of $750 to cancer research on behalf of all you passionate Jazz fans!
This wasn't part of my original plan, but I'm glad it evolved into this. If nothing else, we had some fun, came together as fans, and raised some money for cancer research.
None of this is possible without the collective efforts of all you fans. Thank you.
I know I said the press release would go out today but we are just smoothing out the last of a few bumps and want everything to be perfect.
With not knowing when the Jazz season would end, I had to have some flexibility. Unfortunately it's not as easy as just snapping your fingers and getting a billboard up on the exact day you want it up.
The billboard(s) will be up very soon and I think you'll all be happy and proud of what we came up with to represent Jazz Nation.
I'll let you all know the very second that everything is ready to go, which will be soon, in the next couple of days.
Thanks for all of your enthusiasm. This has been fun to see the community rally around something like this.
Garrett, my company would like to donate money to the cancer research fund that Hayward recommended. I'd like to see if we could connect on helping out with the Stayward campaign as well. I just sent you an email through GoFundMe, so please reply to me through there. - Brian
