Please Help My Dog Max Walk Again

This is for my dog Max, a kind and loving friendly dog that was shot by police only trying to protect his home. On Thursday Max managed to slip out the backyard and went to the front of the house looking for me to open the door.  My long time neighbor saw Max in front yard and called the police complaining about my dog being loose instead of calling me and telling me Max got out of the backyard. The police arrived and Max excitedly walked up to greet them and the police automatically shot him twice! SHOT MY DOG, pulled out their pistols and shot my dog in his own front yard.  SHOT my dog to kill him but luckily Max moved and the bullets hit his legs.  Max ran to the front door and collapsed in front me. WHY? Why did the police shoot my dog? I was home, and no one shouted out to me to come outside to get Max.  They just shot him assuming Max was dangerous because he was a pit bull breed.  If the dog was a Collie they wouldn’t have shot it. If the dog was a Lab it wouldn’t have been shot, they would have petted it! ASSUMING an animals demeanour based on breed is mistaken.  My dog Max 5 yrs in age has never hurt anyone and now has suffered two gun shot wounds to both front legs and is in the hospital having multiple surgeries to save them.  The vet bills are in the 1000s. Please help me save my boy Max from losing his legs to unwarranted police cruelty!  Any donation will help please.
