Meet Rod Bowen
For the last 20 years, Rod has coached Santana High School boys’ water polo in Santee, CA. His teams have captured 16 Varsity League Championships.
Rod also coaches for San Diego Shores Water Polo Club (Shores) where he has led his teams to multiple national championship appearances and titles.
OF EVEN MORE SIGNIFICANCE, Rod Bowen has instilled the importance of commitment, teamwork, sacrifice, persistence and honor in hundreds of young men and for that we are all grateful.
Out of all the players Rod has coached one of his players is now 22 years old and a member of the USA Men’s Senior National Water Polo team and soon to be a 2016 USA Olympian.
Yup, you read that right. A Team USA OLYMPIAN!
Now meet Alex Bowen, Rod’s oldest son. Alex played for Santana and for San Diego Shores before heading off to Stanford University to study engineering and continue his water polo career for the past four years. After graduating from Stanford earlier this year Alex was selected to help the USA Men’s Team capture an Olympic Bid this past summer by winning the Pan American Championships. While at Stanford Alex was a leader on his team, scoring over 200 goals in his collegiate career. He was All American First team and All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation First Team selection multiple times. (Alex’s accomplishments are super long, so, we’re only mentioning a few major highlights!)

Next summer, Alex is going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a proud member of the USA Senior Men’s Water Polo Team. (How incredible is that?!)
Well, what’s the problem? And how can we Help!
It turns out that going to the Olympics is expensive. Crazy expensive.
Sending Alex’s parents, Rod and Barb, to next year’s Olympics will cost about $20,000. (Definitely not chump change!) This amount covers flights, lodging, tickets to the water polo games, and incidentals. (Extra funds will be gifted to Santana High School’s Aquatics program and/or San Diego Shores Water Polo Club.)
WHO ARE WE? A bunch of families whose sons have benefited from being coached by Rod Bowen. A bunch of families who banded together, determined to raise that crazy expensive $20,000. A bunch of families who want to give back to Rod for all he’s done for us and for our community.

Here’s where you come in . .
Let’s help get Alex’s parents to Rio to watch their son play in the 2016 Summer Olympics!
Every donation makes a difference!
