Our Uncle Jimmy is a beloved family member, friend and poet who was hit by a car on Friday December 2nd, 2016 while walking to the bus stop. Jimmy was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Once Jimmy arrived at the hospital, he underwent immediate brain surgery and was placed in the Surgical ICU at UCI. The ER doctors believe he may not have survived if the ambulance arrived much later due to the continuous blood loss in his brain which was evident by the multiple blood transfusions he was given. The hardest challenge we have to face is coping with his short term memory loss and impaired cognitive skills as a result of severe brain trauma. Jimmy has several critical injuries including the severe brain injury, several broken bones and a collapsed lung.
Jimmy is a die-hard Steelers fan who would give anyone the shirt off his back. For those who have had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy know him to be the most caring person who continues to touch the lives of others. As some of his church friends have shared with us, he was always the first person to give the little bit of money he had. Behind Jimmy's genuine smile and delightful humor is someone whose haunting memories from childhood abuse and abandonment remain. Despite his childhood troubles and mental challenges, Jimmy has persevered in life.
