Quien soy:
Mi nombre es Sheila Bala, tuve la suerte de haber nacido en el Reino Unido, siendo mis padres de Sri Lanka. Mis padres llegaron a Londres justo antes de que estallara la Guerra Civil en su país. He estado visitando Sri Lanka estos últimos tres años para hacer trabajo voluntario en las zonas mas desfavorecidas del país. Estoy en una posición privilegiada para ayudar a aquellos que siguen sufriendo los efectos de la guerra (y otras catástrofes posteriores). ¡Espero que podáis formar parte de mi iniciativa y que os unáis a esta gran causa!

El orfanato “Swami Vipulananda children’s home” fue fundado por el Sr. T. Kailayapillai y el Sr. N. Manivasagan utilizando un pequeño edificio propiedad de la Sociedad de Desarrollo Rural de la aldea. Actualmente el orfanato está gestionado por un comité electo formado por personas locales y miembros internacionales entre ellos - yo. Su financiación es muy limitada y sobrevive gracias a las aportaciones del gobierno (tan sólo 3€ al mes por niño), de donaciones y de la caridad. Cuenta con 46 niños de edades comprendidas entre los 8 y los 17 años
Proyecto:
Hace tres años, en mis viajes a Sri Lanka, visité un orfanato en el pequeño pueblo de Palugamam y me estremecí al ver en las malas condiciones en las que vivían los niños ahí. Desde entonces mi involucración es total.
El año pasado, gracias a la ayuda de la organización benéfica PAPA y a la colaboración de buenos amigos, pudimos construir nuevos baños con agua corriente. Y todavía hay mucho por hacer!

Nuestro nuevo proyecto es: UN NIÑO - UNA CAMA.
Ayudanos a construir un nuevo dormitorio para poder ofrecerles una cama a cada niño. Cuando hablamos de las necesidades básicas de un niño, lo primero que nos viene a la mente suele ser la alimentación o la higiene, y pocas veces reparamos en algo tan vital como es el descanso. Un descanso adecuado es fundamental para el desarrollo físico y mental de un niño.
Actualmente, en el orfanato “Swami Vipulananda” disponen de 16 camas para 46 niños. Las cuentas no salen. Algo falla cuando estos chicos, de entre 8 y 17 años, tienen que compartir camas en muy malas condiciones, o directamente dormir en el suelo, día tras día.

Who am I ?
My name is Sheila Bala, although my parents are from Sri Lanka, I was fortunate enough to be born in the UK. They arrived in London just before the Civil War broke out in their country. I have been visiting Sri Lanka for the last three years to do voluntary work in the most disadvantaged areas of the country. I am in a privileged position to help those who continue to suffer the effects of war (and other subsequent catastrophes). I hope you can be part of my initiative and that you will join me supporting this great cause!
Who are they?
The orphanage "Swami Vipulananda Children's Home" was founded by Mr. T. Kailayapillai and Mr. N. Manivasagan using a small building owned by the Rural Development Society of the village. Currently the orphanage is managed by an elected committee made up of local people and international members including myself. Its funding is very limited and the organisation survives thanks to government contributions (of only € 3 per month per child), donations and charity. It has 46 children between the ages of 8 and 17.
The Project:
Three years ago, on my first visit to Sri Lanka as an adult, I visited an orphanage in the small town of Palugamam and I shuddered to see the poor conditions in which the children lived there. Since then I have chosen to dedicate my time to supporting them.
Last year, thanks to the help of the charity PAPA and the collaboration of good friends, we were able to build new bathrooms with running water - a tremendous improvement, however there is still so much to be done!

Our new project is : ONE CHILD - ONE BED.
Help us construct a new building and offer each child their very own bed. When we talk about the basic needs of a child, the first thing that comes to mind is usually food or hygiene, and we rarely notice something as vital as rest. Adequate rest is essential for a child's physical and mental development.
Currently, at the "Swami Vipulananda" orphanage, they have 16 beds for 46 children - it simply doesn’t add up. Something fails when these boys, between the ages of 8 and 17, have to share beds in very bad conditions, or sleep directly on the floor - day after day.

FYI: All funds raised will be used directly to pay for labour costs, material costs and transport of necessary materials to build the bedroom. These transactions will be undertaken personally by me, Sheila Bala, to ensure that all money collected reaches the promised destination. I will be visiting the village and orphanage this summer and will personally deliver all payments in person.
