My name is Shania Cain. My father was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and its really taking a toll on our lives...
A few days before Christmas I got a phone call from my father telling me I needed to come home because he needed to talk to me.
When I got there he told me he had a very aggressive form of cancer. He had been through many test and scans to see what could be done about it.
He has decided to go to Jacksonville's Mayo clinic to receive treatment. Medical bills will still need to be payed but here it's not as stressful.
The money will be put towards the medical bills that's are beginning to pile up. Any donation is greatly appreciated. If there is anything left over it will be put back into cancer research. Please help my family get through this rough time.

I haven't posted an update in a while, so I figured it was time. I want start of by saying thank you again to everyone for their support and encouragement. Please continue to pray and bless the family. Dad has gotten weaker as expected due to chemo, but he has not at all given up, nor has he lost his determination to beat this! He is stronger than even he knows, but he also has a huge support team! He had an interview with Tim from Bob 106.9 this morning and it went great! Everyone please continue to pray for the family and please continue to spread his story. Also, please don't forget that Friday April 8, 2016 we will be hosting a 5k for the cause! Please come and join us at J.F. Gregory park in Richmond Hill for this awesome time! God Bless!
Getting ready for the race!

The doctor should be able to file an appeal with the insurance company stating why the surgery needed to be done out of network. Insurance companies drive me crazy. You would think they are having the employees pay for it out of pocket.

Bless you. Keep fighting! Appeal that insurance decision. If the service is not available in network they should cover it! I'm a Stage 4 cancer fighter myself. We are warriors!

Prayers going out. You need to fight with all you have. The insurance company says its out of network ? If they cannot perform the surgery your dad needs and the care he needs then they have to allow you to go out of network but, bill as in network.

There is a closed FB group called Whipple Surgery Survivor Group. I strongly suggest you and your father join. While you CANNOT post any fundraising in this group, it is a great source of information concerning pancreatic cancer, what to expect with the surgery, and in your case, how to deal with the insurance companies and referrals. I found this group after I went through the Whipple for ampullary cancer and it has been so very, very helpful.
