Uganda School Fees

Donation protected

At the start of 2017 we travelled to Uganda to work with Awamu.
Here's Lou: I spent my time running informal classes for children from 5-12 yrs in the slum areas of Bwaise and Makerere in Kampala. Whilst I loved working with them, these children should be in school! School offers the chance for children to learn how to read, count, sing, play, socialise with other children, and learn about the world from teachers.
Awamu is a social enterprise working with mums in the slums of Kampala to change the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children, often by securing their education.
School fees are impossibly high for guardians, who are often caring for several HIV orphans along with their own children. The children are so keen to learn – they turned up hours before my sessions, eagerly waiting for a chance to learn with the other kids. At the schools that some of the Awamu children attend there are children standing at the gates, looking in, wishing they could go to school. It costs £1000 to see one child through seven years of primary school in Kampala, including uniforms, scholastic materials and meals. It would be wonderful if you could help get one more child into school with a donation, big or small, maybe we could even get two children into school!

Thanks so much for any support,

Lou and George
