Our Story:
It takes extraordinary people to do extraordinary things. We've assembled the best and brightest from the University of Florida to accomplish the impossible. The Gatorloop team consists of undergraduate and graduate level engineering, science, math, and business students. This diversity solidifies our team because with a project as involved as the Hyperloop, there's always going to be an opportunity to utilize a member's skill set. Together, we will combine our individual experiences and knowledge to design a pod to compete in this year's Hyperloop Competition.
"What is Hyperloop?"
The Hyperloop pod is a new concept of mass public transportation combining the convenience of a subway and the speed of an airplane. Elon Musk’s vision for the Hyperloop is comprised of vast, low-pressure tubes that connect cities, with routes stretching on for 350+ miles. The pods would travel through these tubes at speeds surpassing 750 mph — which by comparison, is approximately 110 mph faster than the average passenger Boeing 777 aircraft. The Hyperloop prototype is also engineered for efficiency, as the pods are designed to minimize aerodynamic drag. This revolutionizes the way humans travel from place to place, as a trip from Orlando to Miami would take a mere 26 minutes! The eventual goal is to shrink distances across the world -- bringing people together as they never have before in history.

The Competition:
To accelerate the development of the Hyperloop and encourage student innovation, SpaceX created the Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2015. This competition allows students from around the world to design and test their prototypes. The team with the fastest pod that meets all the requirements is the winner of the competition. Last year, over 1,000 teams submitted pod designs. Gatorloop was one of the 29 teams that were invited to come to California to test their pod. We were thrilled to be one of the top 29 Hyperloop teams in the world! This year, we will use our previous experience to build a pod that's even better. Our goal is to design one of the top 5 fastest pods.
Our Team's challenge:
To raise the required funds budgeted for our program, which is now estimated at around $50,000. All funds will be primarily used for materials, supplies, and testing. Any additional funds that were not used to build the pod will help the team travel to California where the competition will take place. Gatorloop operates with full transparency, if at any time you would like to see how your donations are being used, please contact us. We are elated for this opportunity and hopeful that our Gatorloop pod will again be asked to participate in the finals. This is a huge undertaking for our UF Gatorloop Team and we can only succeed with support from people like you.
