UCL: Somalia Drought Appeal

Donation protected
The current situation in Somalia is becoming increasingly worse with around 6.2 million people in need of assistance, representing more than half of the population.

363,000 children are acutely malnourished, of which, 71,000 need urgent lifesaving care. Experts are predicting a famine because of the deteriorating situation. We do not want a repeat of the 2011 famine where around a quarter of a million lost their lives.

More than 100 people have starved to death in a single region of Somalia within 48 hours due to a severe drought, the country’s prime minister has said.

The situation will not improve unless we act now! Therefore, we are a group of students from UCL who will be fundraising over the next month to try and raise much needed money for these drought sufferers. We pledged to raise £10,000 at the SYFI February Finale Dinner  for the current Drought via Human Appeal.

It is a duty upon us to better their situation.

The money raised will be sent to Somalia by Human Appeal who are currently running an appeal for the famine and drought in Somalia. Human appeal is an organisation over 25 years old and has helped many countries in times of crisis. The money will be used on medical services, emergency food, orphans and vulnerable families.
