August 21, 2014, Jamie was given the news that she had cervical cancer. It was out of nowhere; having had no abnormal tests in the past, and at 29 years old, she had cancer. After an MRI and a PET scan, her gynecological oncologist came to the conclusion that surgery would be enough, so on October 16, 2014, she had surgery to get rid of her cervical cancer.
Since that time, her checkups have been normal. Her MRI was normal in April, but on September 15, 2015, she was given the news that the cancer had returned.
Jamie said, "It's very hard to put into words the feelings and emotions that go through your body when those words come from your doctor's mouth. This news was revealed by having an MRI, PET scan, and a laparoscopy. I was diagnosed as having recurring cervical cancer with a tumor near my right ovary, behind my uterus, in the front of my pelvis, and on a lymph node."
This time the treatment plan is 5 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week, and 5 cycles of chemotherapy which will occur every 21 days.
Rob & Jamie do have insurance, but there are so many unexpected additional expenses that occur when something like this arises.
As the athletic trainer for Spanish Fort High School, Rob has saved the life of two Spanish Fort football players, and now it is our turn, as a community, to reach out and show them how much we love and appreciate them!!!
