We have all heard the adage “it takes a village to raise a child.” This statement speaks to the idea of community—a group of people working through life together, each playing their small part in helping and supporting others when necessary. There are few people who display this principle as thoroughly as Jon and Leah Damon, who have consistently been dear friends and neighbors in our community. Although they prefer to primarily contribute or pour into other’s lives, a time has come that gives us a chance to show our appreciation for their loving spirits.

On a recent visit to the doctor, Jon was diagnosed with colon and intestinal cancer. This comes at a challenging time for the Damons, as Leah is expecting their third baby in a few short weeks. In the last few weeks, Jon has undergone some minor procedures to narrow down the details of his specific condition, and has a major surgery scheduled for the week of April 19th. These procedures and surgeries, particularly the upcoming one, prevent Jon from continuing his balance of full time work and full time father while he recovers. He will be in the hospital for at least a week and out of work for up to three months as he recovers. He and his family remain in good spirits, but it would be an incredible blessing to their family if we could help them through this challenging time by supporting financially, emotionally and spiritually.

Jon Damon will be twenty-eight on May 11th; he is married to his beautiful wife Leah Damon. They have two boys ages four and eighteen months. Baby boy number three is on the way, due to say hello to the world on June 1st.  Jon is always working hard to provide for his family. He is a tender father to their boys. He is not only an incredible husband and father but a great son, brother, role model and mentor to almost everyone he comes in contact with. He has a huge heart to love and serve people. Jon sees and responds to the hand of God moving in his life through the good days, the ordinary days and the trials. He has an army of people who love him and are praying him through this time in his life. He has faith and hope. #Godisbiggerthancancer

Jon and Leah NEED YOUR SUPPORT. I have already stated that Jon is hardworking—he is currently working part time as a security guard with Signal 88 and part time at Gateway Church. Due to the surgery this Friday he will be out of work for a few months without a paycheck. They are having a baby in that timeframe which means Leah will also not be able to work. We would LOVE to be able to honor and support them by taking the financial stress away during this hard time for them. We want to raise enough money to cover their monthly bills for the next three months. All funds collected will go towards living expenses, gas, train tickets to the hospital and medical bills. As best as we can calculate, we know that we are going to need $3,500 per month for living expenses, housing, utilities, mortgage, groceries and diapers. We have no idea what to expect for medical bills at this point but will update the Go fund me page to collect any additional funds when the time comes. If we exceed our ASK, all monies will be going towards their medical bills.

I cannot even express the overwhelming gratitude that Jon, Leah and the boys will feel with the amount of support that people are currently showing them. Know that your generosity is blessing a young family who are extremely strong and have a great need for these funds to support their family of five. They have complete faith that God knows their need and that He is their provider. Let’s come together and help them by going above and beyond this great need. THANK YOU for breathing life and hope.
