DFW Collie Rescue is a small organization dedicated to rescuing purebred collies in central, north and west Texas and Oklahoma or anywhere there is a need and no collie rescue exits. Our FACEBOOK page is DFW Collie Rescue and our website is www.dfwcollierescue.org. In the last 10 years we have adopted over 250 collies and collie mixes. We screen applicants very carefully to make sure they are qualified adopters. Vet and personal references are checked and home visits are done before any applicant is approved for adoption. 2014 was an extremely slow year for incoming rescue collies (which is a good thing in one way) and this led to fewer adoptions, which led to fewer dollars coming in to help pay bills. Donations were also down so this meant even fewer funds to help pay expenses. 100% of every donation goes to the care of the collies. In April 2015 we tried to save an older male who had severe skin problems, would not eat and probably had internal problems; the vet was willing to explore all options; but it was going to be expense and there were not enough funds to do so; we did spend over $500.00 on him. Expenses just in 2014 were major surgery for an senior female with a mammary tumor, after that she had to be spayed and dental cleaning, this was all over $800.00. Another senior female had a staph infection, eye infection and ear infection, this was over $400.00 An adult male had a severe skin condition and heartworms, this was over $500.00, a puppy had demodex mange and was treated over a 2 month period, that was over $200.00. She recovered from the mange and is doing great. Other rescues needed the normal shots, heartworm test, fecal, spay or neuter. All of this plus food, monthly heartworm preventive (needed year round in Texas), flea and tick preventive (when needed) and all the medicine. All grooming is done in house so there is shampoo, brushes, etc. that are needed. With low adoptions and low donations in 2014 & 2013 and the carry over of expenses from 2013 we are in desperate need of funds to carry on our rescue work and with your help we will be able to pay our current expenses and help save more collies.
