We lost barnyard when we least expected it. It sucked and we are ALL broken.
Bernie Krell was our family, our friend and one of the nicest people we knew and he was, in the words of the ICU nurse, "very very sick".
Friends and family kept asking how they could help and as much as some of us hate crowdfunding, we've been convinced to do this to raise money to help cover exceptional medical expenses and (as much as we hate to say it) possibly his memorial.
We lost him very quickly and have to plan a memorial.
It came out of nowhere.
In March 2016, out of seemingly nowhere, he went to the hospital with what he thought was the flu. At the time of starting this, he'd been there for just under a week and nothing worked. By day 3 in the hospital he'd had heart failure and multiple organ failure. By day 5 we got to see them add loss of brain function and pneumonia to that. In less than a week he was just gone. Despite some heroic efforts by doctors and massive amounts of prayer, kind thoughts and random bad jokes nothing helped.
Thank you doesn't even begin to express how we feel.
We don't know how to say thank you because we don't know how to even deal with all of this. Please just know we appreciate any support you can give in any form.
It hurts to type this so we'll stop now and just say thank you on behalf of Bernie who most of all would wish this wasn't happening.
-P.S. this was set up by his big sister (mary agnes) and she is doing it because her siblings and extended family asked... She feels really uncomfortable with all of this (if you know her and what she does you'll understand) but she believes it could actually help. This is entirely for Bernie.
-P.P.S. I also had no idea how much to ask for because we weren't sure how many days he'd remain in Intensive Care, whether we were planning for hospice or a funeral or how his lack of insurance will play out in the current US system (and yes - I told him off many times for not having insurance... quite a few of us did).
