Support Little Tong’s Misael Cruz

Donation protected
Please support one of the most important members of our family. Because family is the most important thing in the world.

And, if you’re in New York, please join us on 7/14 and 7/15 for our fundraising dinners.

Misael Cruz, our beloved sous chef who is the glue in our kitchen, has been battling a decades-long, life-threatening disease that has invaded his brain. We learned this weekend he needs immediate neurosurgery to save his life.

All proceeds from the dinners we host this weekend will go toward funding Misael’s surgery in Chicago next week. We hope that you’ll join us for “Family Meal” — a taste of what it’s like to be a part of the Little Tong community — as we bring together all branches of our family. We’ll be serving up signature Little Tong dishes, as well as some of the items that we (namely, Misael) make for our private family meals — the staff meals before service. In other words, we’ll be serving up the delicious, crave-worthy foods we want to hide in a dark corner to gobble up. Also to be featured: sweets by chef Wylie Dufresne’s Du’s Donuts, tasty bites and sake from Crimson Sparrow/OKA’s chef John McCarthy, as well as plates by BonBite’s Winston Chu.  (Our GM Emmeline will be accepting the funds on Misael’s behalf).

We’ve known Misael since our early years of working for chef Wylie Dufresne. Misael first arrived in the United States via Chicago from Mexico at the young age of 13. He worked his way through numerous industries and into adulthood, but found his passion in the restaurant industry. There, he had his start as a dishwasher/porter for chef Wylie at wd~50 and Alder, before quietly, but arduously, working his way up the ranks.

For Misael, passion is both romantic and pragmatic — making him an even more indispensable link in our family’s DNA. For years he’s poured his sweat, blood, (though no tears) into the work that he does. He has always been the one to say the least while doing the most, asking for very little while giving generously.

At this critical time, it brings us no greater honor, but also no more acute heartache, to give back to someone who has given so much. Please join us this weekend as we bring our extended family together — including you — to support Misael. He has touched every dish that we have served at Little Tong, not to mention every heart that has crossed paths with him. We hope to see you this weekend for a warm family gathering and well-wishings!
