After a 3 year fight including 5 surgeries, both kidneys being removed (one year apart) monthly visits for blood draws, numerous ER visits, dialysis ever night we found out our friend and neighbor has been approved for transplant. That's right, our NEIGHBOR! If that doesn't renew your faith in people, I don't know what would!
After Carrie's second kidney was removed, just a little over a year ago, our neighbor heard about the surgery and realized he was the same hard to find blood type as Carrie. He volunteered his kidney. After months and months of tests, he has been approved!
For those of you that know Carrie, you know she is that special kind of person that would want to make a neighbor donate a kidney! She is a terrific mom, step-mom and wife. She has worked FULL TIME through all the ups and downs of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Including returning to work after having each kidney removed and doing daily dialysis.
The transplant is currently scheduled for January 11, 2016. Unfortunately, we have to travel to Seattle. This is the transplant center we selected as Boise doesn't have a transplant hospital.
The disease Carrie has is hereditary and has ran through her family for years. The hospital in Seattle, known as Swedish Hospital, has transplanted many of her family members who have had this terrible disease.
With the trip to Seattle, we need to pay our way there (and back) food, and parking (you have to pay for parking everywhere in Seattle, it's crazy!). Our lodging has been paid for by a transplant grant and we are forever grateful for that. However, only 4 weeks are paid for. She has been told to prepare for up to a 6 week stay in Seattle while her medications are dialed in to protect her and her new kidney.
This Giveforward page is created on Carrie's behalf to help pay for these costs of this much needed transplant in Seattle.
Your thoughts and prayers for Carrie AND her donor are appreciated also.
Organ donation truly is the Gift of Life! Please consider being an organ donor.
