<div>With all your help I recently started my MA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Cincinnati. While I am grateful to have a scholarship that covers tuition and provides a stipend, and the support my community has given to me, I am currently facing financial struggles because of housing.

<div>Before arriving in Cincinnati, I was not able to find roommates in time, so I had to accept the university’s on-campus housing offer. Unfortunately, the contract I signed does not allow me to move out until next semester, and the cost is much higher than what I can afford. Most of my stipend is going directly to rent, leaving me with very little for food, transportation, and personal expenses.

<div>Gracias a su apoyo he podido comenzar mi Maestría en Estudios de la Mujer, Género y Sexualidad en la Universidad de Cincinnati. Aunque estoy muy agradeide por la beca que cubre mi matrícula y me ofrece un dinero extra, así como por el apoyo de mi comunidad, actualmente estoy enfrentando dificultades económicas debido a la vivienda.

<div>Antes de llegar a Cincinnati no logré encontrar compañeres de cuarto a tiempo, por lo que tuve que aceptar la opción de vivienda en el campus que ofrece la universidad. Lamentablemente, el contrato que firmé no me permite salir hasta el próximo semestre, y el costo es mucho más alto de lo que puedo cubrir. La mayor parte de mi dinero se va en pagar la renta, lo que me deja con muy poco para comida, transporte y gastos personales.

<div>With a heavy heart, I’m saddened to say Saúl Rivas has passed away. Saúl tragically lost his life in a car accident on February 1st, 2024. He was only 32 years old and leaves behind a loving wife, two little girls who are 3 and 5 years old, and a family that will greatly miss him. Saúl was hit by a bus on early Monday morning, his car was crushed. His death was instant as he did not have to suffer but those he leaves behind will always miss him.

<div>Saúl was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend who would put his family and those he loved before anything and always knew how to bring out the best version of everyone. Most of all, Saúl just brought joy to the world. He was the light in the dark. No matter what was going on, he was always willing to help and was constantly putting smiles on everyone’s face. He had a great personality with bringing positive energy to those around him. He was a hard worker who also would help out in his community with being a soccer referee since he was 13, which was also his favorite sport.

<div>These funds will go to help support Saúl’s wife and his two little girls going forward since he was the provider for his family. Saúl’s wife has been a stay at home mom trying to get her college degree while taking care of the girls and Saúl. Saúl’s wife has been left with nothing due to him being the provider and Saúl never got the chance to set up a will for his family as none of us ever thought something like this would happen.

A grieving family in times of a loss

Hi! We are a group of college students trying to help our friend's (Belén) family from Paraguay. Recently, Belén’s brother, Matias, who is 4 years old was hospitalized because he was feeling very weak and had a fever going on for a couple of days. He was diagnosed with anemia and was treated for it at the local hospital in Tobati, Paraguay. Matias seemed not to do better after a couple of weeks. Desperately, looking for more concrete answers, Belen's family decided to take him to a private hospital at the capital of Paraguay, Asuncion. Matias' mother could not travel with him to the capital because she has a 6-month-old boy to take care of, so her dad took Matias to the hospital at the capital. At this hospital, the doctors said that Matias needed a bone marrow test to confirm the cause of these symptoms. The test itself was costly, but Matias has finally been diagnosed with leukemia and has to start a 3-year long treatment. The doctors say it’s curable and we believe that he and his family will fight and get through this. He needs his family’s support and time, and the least of their worries should be the costs of the treatment. Belén’s dad is their only source of income and he’s currently not working to be with Matias. This is why we decided to create this fundraiser to help support Belén and her family, financially. <br />We would really appreciate it if you could also contribute to this cause. Somos un grupo de estudiantes universitarios intentando ayudar a la familia de nuestra amiga Belén de Paraguay. Recientemente, el hermano de Belén, Matías, quien tiene 4 años de edad fue hospitalizado ya que se sentía muy débil y había tenido fiebre por muchos días. Matías fue diagnosticado con anemia y recibió tratamiento para ello en el hospital local de Tobatí, Paraguay. Habían pasado muchas semanas y parecía que él no mejoraba. Su familia buscaban desesperadamente respuestas más concretas es por eso que decidieron llevarlo a un hospital privado de la capital de Paraguay, Asunción. La mamá de Matías no pudo viajar con él a la capital porque tiene un bebé de 6 meses que también tiene que cuidar, entonces su papá lo acompañó al hospital. En este hospital, los doctores dijeron que Matías necesitaba un examén de médula ósea para confirmar la causa de estos síntomas. El exámen es muy costoso pero Matías finalmente fue diagnosticado con leucemia y tiene que empezar un tratamiento de tres años. Los doctores dicen que es curable y nosotros creemos que él y su familia van a luchar y salir de esta. Matías necesita el apoyo y el tiempo de su familia, y el costo del tratamiento no debería ser una preocupación. El papá de Belén es la única fuente de ingreso de la familia y él no está trabajando actualmente por estar con Matías. Por eso es que decidimos empezar a recaudar dinero para ayudarle a Belén a apoyar a su familia economicamente. <br />Agradeceríamos mucho si usted puediera contribuir a esta causa.
