I am reaching out for help after fleeing an abusive relationship with my partner of 11 years. Standing up for myself was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it left me and my dog homeless, with nowhere to turn. I’ve tried everything—calling shelters, hotlines, and asking for help from local organizations. Most places are full, and the only support I received was a hotel room for one night. Now, my dog and I are back on the streets, and I feel like the system is failing us. It’s been incredibly hard to keep going, but I know I have to try for both of us. I was working before, but losing my home made it impossible to keep my job. Without a safe place to sleep, shower, or eat, it’s been a struggle to care for myself and my dog. I make sure he eats, even if I go without, because he’s my family and keeps me going. All I want is a chance to get back on my feet, find work, and feel safe and happy again. I want to be able to care for my dog the way he deserves and regain my independence. I am asking for help so I can secure shelter, food, and basic necessities for both of us.
