The day after celebrating her birthday, Cheyanne (Shaffer) Dodson received news no one ever expects; she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Just months earlier, in October, Cheyanne had celebrated one of the happiest milestones of her life, marrying her husband and beginning an exciting new chapter with her family. Now, instead of settling into that new season, she is preparing to face the fight of her life.

Cheyanne has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a form of breast cancer that is HER2 positive and hormone positive. While it was caught early, she now faces surgery, treatments, and the many physical and emotional challenges that come with fighting cancer.

Cheyanne is also the best ever mom of her amazing 6-year-old son, Oakleigh, who is her entire world. As she begins this journey, her focus needs to be on healing and being there for her family.

Cancer affects far more than just health. Between surgery, treatments, recovery time, and frequent medical appointments, Cheyanne’s husband will need to take time away from work to be by her side and help care for their family. This will bring a significant loss of income during an already overwhelming time, along with the additional costs of medical care, transportation to appointments, and everyday household expenses.

Those who know Cheyanne know she has a huge heart and is always there for the people she loves. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

We created this fundraiser to help support Cheyanne and her family with:

• Medical and treatment-related expenses

• Lost income while her husband takes time away from work to support her

• Transportation to and from appointments

• Household and day-to-day expenses while Cheyanne focuses on healing

Every donation — no matter the size — will help ease the financial burden so Cheyanne can focus on what matters most: fighting cancer and being there for Oakleigh.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean so much.

Cheyanne, we love you and are all standing behind you in this fight.

Support Cheyanne's Fight Against Breast Cancer

Hello everyone! Thank you for taking the time to look at this fundraiser I started for my mom, Wendy Roberts. One of life's most terrifying trials is facing a cancer diagnosis, but my mom is a fighter and she's putting in the work to kick cancer's butt! She just finished her chemo and radiation treatments, but healing from those treatments has not been easy for her. I will not go into detail here, but I can't imagine the excruciating pain involved in having your skin repeatedly burned in a sensitive area. My mom has reconnected with an old childhood friend that has done in home healthcare for many years and has been staying with my mom to get her back to good health. The reason for this fundraiser is to help alleviate some of the financial stress of paying for in home healthcare as her insurance doesn't cover this and her options were to go to a rehabilitation hospital (no one wants to go to one of those places), or pay out of pocket for in home healthcare. I truly just want her to focus on healing her body and being independent again.

Cancer Sucks

Hi, my name is Kristina. Yesterday, February 7th , my friend Jessica’s 9 week old baby Oakley, had to be rushed to the emergency room for having trouble breathing. Upon arrival the hospital there at the coast determined that he would need to be put on oxygen and transferred by life flight ambulance to a hospital in Medford, Oregon better equipped to deal with pediatric cases. Only one parent is allowed to fly with him , so his mom, Jessica had to drive the 2 and a half hours over to be with him.

Once in Medford, Rogue Valley Medical Center, it was determined Oakley was suffering from RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection). His condition deteriorated very quickly. He had to be intubated, and put on a feeding tube. This escalated his case of RSV to needing more specialized care, requiring another transfer by air ambulance to Doernbechers hospital (OHSU) in Portland, OR. As of about 2am today February 8th Baby Oakley is on a ventilator and feeding tube, battling this horrible virus. With mom and dad by his side.

With the unexpected flights, having to drive first to Medford then Portland the same day, cost of food ,fuel, David (dad) being unable to work, this has already caused this family a lot of unexpected costs. That with the uncertainty of how long baby Oakley will be in the hospital,

this family is going to need our help to make it through this traumatic time without any extra stress worrying about a place to stay /shower, meals, fuel, bills, rent and the care of the three girls they had to leave at home in Brookings over 300 miles away from where they are in the hospital with Oakley.

Please donate and pray for Baby Oakley, Jessica ,David and their family. If you are unable to donate , please share so this campaign can reach as many people as possible! Thank you

Help Baby Oakley ,Jessica and their family

As I got older, this was always in the back of my mind... genetically, I had a 50/50 chance of developing the cancer that took my mom in 2006 at age 52.

As I sit here at age 41, with my belly attacked by the same genetic invader, I'm saddened that my mom died so young. I wonder if she felt the same nasea I feel, the fear, the random constant pain, and the helplessness.

My mom taught my sister and I to be fiercely independent, but sometimes, that's not always good. I struggle when I don't necessarily have to, just to be able to say "I did this on my own and I didn't need help."

But, you guys... I need help.

Rent and bills are coming due and I haven't worked since July 3rd. I'm heading down to Arizona for specialized treatment. Avienda begins high school in a little over a month and I don't know what I'm going to do to get her prepared with clothes and school supplies. She's been through so much in her young life, and I want her to at least not have to worry about being ready for school.

This is really difficult for me to ask, but I realize I have a strong support system and folks want to help. Maybe just a few dollars is all you can do, and that's OK. Everything helps right now.

I appreciate you all so much and count myself incredibly lucky to be supported by such a wide range of kind people. I don't know how to pay you back, except by continuing to fight for my life and be as good a friend to you as you have all been to me.

It was with great miracle his bleeding stop as they had him scheduled for surgery the next day after he was admitted. This condition could be a slow recovery for Ferd. He is a single dad, father of four but caring for two teenage boys . It may take time to get him setup with the dreadful EDD process and other assistance because he’s not in the condition to deal with this load right now and all his families are out of state. The funding will surely help with any unexpected medical bills and just every day living expenses. They have gone through some tough times in the past year. Businesses in the small town he lives in was heavily impacted in result of COVID19 economic downturn and he was amongst the one who was layed off for months with delayed assistance. Just when he is finally back at the workforce and recuperating from his misfortune this event occurred.

If you are able and in a position to help a neighbor, any amount is welcomed.
We would be so grateful, as this funding will give him the time to focus on getting better so he can continue to provide for his family once again! He takes pride in doing so like any good father would.

With GOD‘s love, we are strong together as community and sincere “Thank-you” in advance!

**Please note** we will be withdrawing the funds and delivering them to the beneficiary, including how and when due to his condition.

Help with Ferd’s recovery

Hi friends,

Many of you know about the fires in Southern Oregon and the devastation we are facing .
Many of my friends lost absolutely everything and they need our support. One of those friends is Maria Peña and her husband Asunción they lost absolutely everything in the fire. They were not home when the alert to evacuate happened and only had time to get their dog out . Everything is gone, his trucks(he is gardener), their house and everything they work so hard
for.

I am asking for your help to bring some relief and hope to this beautiful family. Their children ages 14 and 7 are heartbroken and so are they.If you feel a call in your heart to help financially or with a prayer will be really appreciated.

Much love to all of you and be safe.

Help for Maria Peña and her family

Me and my family just lost our house in the fires. It would mean a lot if you could donate. I was home alone when we had to evacuate I was only able to grab my dogs. Any amount of money would mean a lot. We lost everything in the fires

Family of 3 lost their homes

This has been started to help our family with the farewell expenses for my niece, Marriah. We are all shocked and at a loss. Unfortunately we need help with cremation & other final costs. I'm not one to ask for money, but we can't cover it. My sister is numb, we all are. But if I can help her with this, then it will be one less thing for her to have to deal with. Please my friends, as I sit here bawling, I beg for your help. I know so much is going on in our area, that my problem seems small, but it is gigantic to us. A small donation would mean the world to me, my sister, our whole family. Thank you my friends.

Marriah's farewell expenses

This cannot be real.Last week Kendall found a lump in her armpit. A CT Scan confirmed, a mass the size of a key lime under her arm and another, larger mass in her chest. Yesterday, March 19th, 2018 at 12:21pm she got the phone call we were all dreading. It’s Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her cancer has returned. Just like that. 4 1/2 years after she kicked cancer’s ass, it’s real. Today she is having a PET scan to see where the disease is in her body. Tomorrow her doctor will go over the results and have a treatment plan ready for her. From there, she will have a bone marrow test, pulmonary function test and port placement. Kendall is the mother of a beautiful 1 year old girl, Sofia and Wife of Fily Bencomo, who is a full time nursing student. Currently, Kendall is the Marketing Director for Garrison’s Home in Central Point, Oregon and she is the SOLE financial provider for their household. The Bencomo Family is surrounded by friends and family praying for her healing and for their strength. In this time, where their whole world has been turned upside down and while they find the strength to stay positive and brave, I know her friends and family want to help in anyway that they can and easing the financial burden that is the rotten cherry on top of this horrible disease would be a tremendous relief for them. Please, no matter how small, together we can make a big difference for this family ♥️ Kendall, we know you’ve got this. So, we’ve got you.

F*CK CANCER

Fire has ravaged the Umpqua National Forest this summer. With the tireless efforts of firefighters from many states and communities and the full support of local residents and authorities, many of the homes of the Dry Creek community have been saved. However, the economic impact on this community is devastating. Residents and small business owners, including Umpqua's Last Resort, are 100% dependent on seasonal summer income, which has now been permanently lost. The fire in the Umpqua Valley may have a much deeper impact than the devastation of pristine forest - it may now force Umpqua's Last Resort to close, devasting the Dry Creek community and leaving residents unable to pay their bills.

Umpqua's Last Resort employs 7 people, who are as of now essentially out of a job, with no end in sight until damages can be assessed, losses accounted for, and the fire is no longer a threat. The employees are staying with the park even without employment by camping nearby, sharing food and blankets, and trying to keep spirits up. John, Dustin, and others are fighting the fire side-by-side with professional firefighters to help save what they can, including John's hand-built fire truck. If you know John and Dustin, you can imagine what this looks like.

The lost business will continue to have ramifications for years to come, if Umpqua's Last Resort can survive at all. Business/Fire insurance only activates after conditions of deductibles are met, which can be as high as $25,000. With the closure of the park, this may be an insurmountable obstacle. After many years of blood, sweat, and tears, the park was just this year finally above water, being able to save for this condition. However, with the costs to fight the fire alone, already all of those savings are now gone, with no immediate options to help recover.

Beyond our love for the park and the people there, the value of Umpqua's Last Resort to the Dry Creek community is immeasurable. They have worked tirelessly to create a community of love, tolerance, acceptance, and stability for local residents and visitors alike. Their generosity to their friends and neighbors is unmatched. Nobody is ever in need if they are made aware of it. They have donated their time, energy, and resources again and again to build a thriving, peaceful sanctuary for the benefit of all. And not just in their own community. They have donated countless times to our children's schools, help community organizations, and people in need for many years.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
So many of us have generously offered to help in any way we can. These offers are heartfelt, and tremendously appreciated, but for most of us we feel helpless to do anything.

This is how you can help. It's our turn. The people of Umpqua's Last Resort need you to support them immediately. Contributing to this fund today will help them with food and shelter as the fire continues to be fought, and will then help to rebuild after the fire is contained. Without this, they may not be able to recover, and the park may close for good.

In short, please donate anything you can, right now. Your generous donations will go directly to support our loved ones - yours and ours - at Umpqua's Last Resort. We are also notified within minutes of every donation, so it will raise the spirits of those exhausted by this fight. This may be the only way to save this beloved home, and home away from home, for so many people.

UPDATE: Out of respect for the privacy of the people involved, we've edited this post to remove some personal information as we work through this traumatic time. We're doing this with the best of intentions, so please do not misconstrue these changes as anything with ill intent.

Here is more information about this campaign:

My name is April Holt-Geiger, and I am the sister of Dustin Ashliegh and John Holt, both partners and owners of Umpqua's Last Resort. Seeing the dedication, determination, incredible hard work and tenacity of my brothers for the last 11 years, compels me to help them in any way I can. Living in Oregon City, Oregon, I have spent years bringing my family to Umpqua's Last Resort as an amazing getaway from the city. This place has been a sanctuary for our entire family.

The funds raised here will provide additional support to the displaced employees of Umpqua's Last Resort as they struggle to come to terms with lost wages due to the park closure until the ongoing fire danger subsides. Due to the current smoke and health related hazards caused by this fire, much of the staff has had to find lodging elsewhere, creating substantial financial hardship to every one of them. Funds will also help cover out of pocket costs for the evacuation of the Umpqua family and their guests. The staff is in the process of gathering all of the estimates needed for repairs and rehabilitation of the property, structures and residences - including road repair, smoke damage, and water damage.

The funds will be distributed directly to the employees and to the emergency vendors through Umpqua's Last Resort. As CEO, Dustin will be withdrawing the funds in hiw own name in order to distribute those funds to all those who are part of the Umpqua team there.

Please see the website at umpquaslastresort.com for detailed information about the family business.
