<div>My name is jaye simpson and I am a 30 year old Two Spirit/Indigiqueer trans girl hoping to access top surgery by the end of this year. There's a lot of varying experiences with gender affirming healthcare in British Columbia and Canada but mine hasn't been so good as a plus sized girl. I have spent the last several years battling archaic health systems and now can finally access chest constructive surgeries. Unfortunately, two of them are NOT covered by the province and require funds to accomplish for the best results. I require a tuck and a lift to ensure I have the best results and have a successful surgery experience. Unfortunately these are costly and have a price tag of $21k+. I also would need recovery time and would have to take time from work and contracts to prioritize my healing.

<div>The cost for the surgery is slated at just over $21,000 CAD with taxes and I have budgeted $7,000 CAD for my healing and recovery for 3 months as I will have limited mobility and access.

I know these are trying times for so many of us, but the dream of gender affirming care is so close for me and I would love to go into my 31st year feeling more attune with my body.

After growing up as a Busking Drag Artist in the Man Up Vancouver/East Side Community, I ended up ousted after a traumatic incident. Instead of being communally supported financially to keep my jobs, I ended up being pushed into Psychiatric Care, by a family of White* People.

<div>Racialized individuals who experience Trauamtic Abuse should not be pushed into isolating and spirituality-sucking mental health facilities, often trained in ABA, and forced medicalization on anti-psychotics, and benzodiazepines.

<div>I'm hoping to update and open a Building (or a few!) in the area that can function as proper Arts Shelter Spaces for Youth Artists in Trauma Crisis, where we can fund their comfortable return back to paid work at their personal comfort &amp; assistance - particularly for those between the ages of 25-39. Most of the individuals, such as myself, end up in  care facilities around the Toronto Area, as they have the best “psychiatric” care - but my goal would be to produce more spaces akin to the Barrett Centre, and to actually make sure the individuals got the access and care they need at a cost that isn’t “desperation.”

<div>In the Winter of 2024, I ended up located in a remote homeless shelter. Without much access to affordable tech, I found myself scraping by on every plug (functional or not) I could find.

<div>It was then I realized that the concept of technology, and access to your own computer, as well as unblocked access to a Freeware &amp; Content Organized Internet is once again a human right. 
</div>

<div>Too many times, I have found that my own content has been frozen out by Jailbroken Apple Products, where I find myself unable to charge a phone or device due to a poor plug malfunction. I can't often drop $2000 on a new phone.

<div>When I was in the homeless shelter, I really developed a care and access point for the need for more basic technological products for teaching, and for quick and easy re-integration. Despite likely being more than capable of it, the shelter had two laptops, and no desks - for over 130 people.

<div>It was then I decided I was going to want to fundraise for a Chromebook Cart again. 
</div>

<div>Artemis, lovingly referred as Arty by their friends, is a trans non-binary individual who has been waiting for top surgery for 4 years! They have finally received a surgery date for mid-October and are really excited to take this gender-affirming step. Arty is a wonderful member of community. They have been a stand-out drag performer in so-called Vancouver for over 7 years and in recent years has also stepped into the ballroom scene. Whether they are stomping around on the local drag stages or turning looks in best dressed, Arty does everything with incredible passion. They can be counted upon to support community members and advocate for those that need help and are the first to lend a hand.

<div>Artemis relies on hourly work and drag gigs to pay the bills and while they recover for a period of 4-6 weeks, they will be taking time off work and will not have income. As we all know, living in Vancouver in incredibly expensive. That is why this fundraiser is being organized to support them (and their beautiful senior house panther Floof) so that they can focus on their recovery and come back swinging.
