<div>Stump removal for the Skyline Median, Phase 3 - SOUTH END

<div>Over the past two years, neighbors and users of the Skyline Median trail have donated funds for the beautification of the median by removing the eyesore of the old stumps.

<div>Hopefully you have seen the 160 new trees that were planted in the winter of 2024. In the sections that were planted, we used the donations to hire a tree service remove the stumps. Now we would like to continue the effort moving South of the Firehouse.

<div>The City of Oakland has a plan to remove the Monterey Pines (as they fall) and replace them with fire-resistant natives that comply with Oakland's guidelines for replacement. City funding will not permit stump removal.

<div>Because some sections of Skyline had started to look like tree stump graveyards, we wanted to work on cleaning up these stumps. Phase One and Two were completed in 2024 and 2025. With the success of the initial fundraising campaigns, we would like to move on to the next phase of removing or cutting back as many more stumps as possible. Where possible, the aim is to take the stumps to just above the surface of the ground, not grinding the roots. In some locations with a steeper slope, the stumps will be cut as close to the ground as possible.

Ah! Hi hello, fancy seeing you here. I can’t wait to get you up to speed on my/our current conundrum and tell you how you could play a part in making me (Jess) the happiest girl in all the land. Let’s start with the sob story and then get into the real nitty-gritty goals of this mission shall we?<br /><br />About a year ago, I left a relationship that had taken a toll on me emotionally, mentally, and financially. As cliches go, it was a journey filled with ups and downs, but as a result of THE series of unfortunate events, I ended up losing my car and access to a personal vehicle. My credit, which also took a hit during my previous relationship, has made it impossible for me to finance a new vehicle. *BIG sigh* <br />

 Over the past few months, I’ve worked hard to right so many of the things that went awry. I’ve rebuilt my confidence, found stability, and started to dream again about the life I deserve. This tumor has encased his left carotid and vertebral arteries feeding parts of his shoulder and his spine.<br /><br />Quinn needs financial help to manage his current condition and to get him through whatever's next for him. Sadly, he has been told he has about 6 to 9 months to live. This is a diagnosis offered from allopathic doctors at top teaching universities. His friends want him to be comfortable and to have further options available through this hard time.<br /><br />Quinn’s spirit and giving soul ran deep in the DPW and at Burning Man for 9 years. In 2004 Quinn was hired as The Construction Foreman to develop the Burning Man Ranch and joined Burning Man’s Department of Public Works’ circle in 2005 when he became Special Projects Manager. Later that same year his leadership and talent was noted, and he was promoted to Ranch Manager. In 2007, Quinn joined the Senior Staff and the DPW Council, and was then promoted to Nevada Properties Manager becoming the resident caretaker for all of Burning Mans various properties in Gerlach and at the Ranch until 2013.<br /><br />  It was with nothing more than a shrug that Quinn took on the unenviable task of organizing and rebuilding the wreckage junkyard that was The Ranch. To the amazement of all, finally there was a place for everything, and everything was in its place.<br /><br />In the course of Quinn’s efforts, he assembled a trusted and loyal team, and some remain his truest friends to this day. His secret? He worked his ass off, and he took care of his crew. He took at face value the “W” part of BRC-DPW; Work. His energy was hard to keep up with, but it set a tone of accomplishment that still holds today at the crucial facility that supports many vital parts of the Burning Man Project. His mark prevails.<br /><br />Nobody should have to work this hard to rest and receive palliative care. 100% of funds go directly to Quinn’s support in his next steps. Justice and Equality Cause Fund

<p>We saw some folks are raising money for a border wall to keep out our migrant siblings and fellow human beings, who are fleeing violence and persecution and whose tragically-underpaid labor is essential to the U.S. economy. <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/essay/the-wall-the-real-costs-of-a-barrier-between-the-united-states-and-mexico/">Seems like a bad idea on countless levels for everyone involved.</a>  Maybe we should focus on human rights and creating a community that reflects our supposed values.

<p>And even though at a rate of $1.7 million daily, it would take their fund about 35 years to raise the <a href="https://www.politifact.com/california/statements/2017/apr/28/scott-peters/would-trumps-border-wall-cost-same-one-and-half-us/">$21.7 billion that Trump's own Dept. of Homeland Security says would be needed</a>  to build said wall, we wanna make sure ladders are ready to send over to our undocumented friends and help them.

Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall

My name is Lyndsey Boswell, and I am reaching out on behalf of the entire Ellis and Flynn family to ask for the support of friends and family. <br /><br />Over the past couple of weeks my God mother, Terry Ellis was devastated when she received the news of her stage 4 cancer diagnosis. This is especially profound considering she and her husband have two beautiful children ages 4 and 9.<br /><br />Terry Ellis is a beautiful, kind, strong, and genuine woman, loved by all who are lucky enough to know her. We’re asking for funds to help Terry have time to heal, Tim have time to focus on kids, and money to help offset both alternative and standard treatments. Help us support her family in this time of need.<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE:</strong> Unfortunately its still to early to give much of an update. Terry has stage 4 breast cancer, which means she has breast cancer that has spread to other organs (lungs  and liver). Her oncologist is still waiting until next Wed(approximately) to hear what treatments the cancer will be available to (there is a culturing process that achieves that). We have been given no time or longevity estimates but the situation is dire. <br /><br />This diagnosis arose because of a hospital event, Terry had a fluid filled lung that led to the discovery of tumors. Terry knew as soon as she received this diagnosis that she would seek alternative treatment. After all, <strong>y</strong><strong>ou're never too old to follow your dreams.</strong><strong><br /></strong><strong><br />…ok, let’s be serious.</strong> Super serious. We’re not going to be able to help Donald realize his conveniently retroactive military fantasies, and based on precedent he could likely get a series of deferments to avoid going even if we tried. So instead, we’re going to convert his toxic bigotry, ignorance, and callousness into something positive. As Michelle Obama said/as Melania Trump might say at some point in the future: "when they go low, we go high."<strong><br /></strong><br />What better way to do that than to redirect money to <strong>a good cause that Donald Trump would vehemently oppose: aiding Syrian refugees.</strong> All money actually raised will be distributed to vetted groups working directly with Syrian refugees as well as refugees of similar conflict zones - the decent fellow humans who were unfortunate enough to be in one of these regions when everything around them collapsed, and whom Trump has broadly categorized as likely terrorists unworthy of resettlement.<br /><br /><strong>Due to the amount raised so far, the funds will be split between three organizations</strong> with different specialties:<br />-1/3 of it will go to the <a href="http://www.rescue.org" target="_blank">International Rescue Committee</a>, which is one of the nine voluntary agencies (VOLAGs) that work directly with the admitting/screening U.S. government agencies to help refugees “move in” and establish their new lives, while at the same time helping them become self-sufficient and well-integrated members of their community.<br />-1/3 of it will go to the <a href="http://www.sams-usa.net/society/" target="_blank">Syrian American Medical Society</a>, which is comprised of medical professionals of Syrian descent offering a wide range of medical services to Syrians in need, both inside and outside of Syria. In addition to providing medical care themselves, they also help to “teach a man to fish” by providing instruction to Syrian medical professionals.<br />-1/3 of it will go to <a href="http://net.fluechtlinge-willkommen.de" target="_blank">Refugees Welcome International</a>, essentially an “AirBnB for refugees” that engages our European and Canadian friends whose governments allow private refugee sponsorship (something the U.S. does not yet do). Because so much of the spirit of this fundraiser is centered around a unified global outlook (we’re all fellow homo sapiens, sitting on a rock hurtling through space together), I figured we could help our European and Canadian allies demonstrate the efficacy of private sponsorship.<br /><br /><strong>Why these three groups?</strong> I wanted at least two of the organizations to be smaller (yet established) groups that need the money more than the big VOLAGs, while at the same time giving at least some to a leading secular VOLAG with a proven record. Furthermore, I could not find anything substantially negative on any of them, save for the occasional xenophobic lowest-common-denominator all-caps rantings of Trump supporter types on obscure blogs/social media.<br /><br /><strong>Admin note:</strong> GoFundMe holds fundraisers legally accountable for using money raised on their site "in the exact manner you state within your campaign." I have contacted all three organizations via email (and Facebook) to figure out how to transfer the money directly to them when this fundraiser concludes.
