<div>I am the uncle of Justin Bowers. Justin and his wife Taylar were asleep in bed, and their children were also asleep. When an unknown intruder entered their home and murdered Justin, then Taylar, while the kids were asleep. The oldest son heard the gunfire and ran to his parents to find them deceased as the cowardly intruder fled on foot. <strong>Justin was a US Army and Afghanistan veteran, and he and Taylar were very loving parents.</strong> This senseless double murder has left 3 kids with no parents and shattered many lives. My sister and Taylar's mom will be caring for the children, whose ages are 14, 8, and 6. <strong>I'm asking for help for these babies whose lives have been shattered by the loss of their parents.</strong> All funds will be given directly to the grandparents to help with whatever these kids need. Thank you.

Aid for Bowers Kids After Tragic Loss

<div>As you all already know, Dr. Lindauer will be retiring this fall and this upcoming graduation will be his last as Chair of the department. We would love to honor him with a gift. We decided to get him a pyramid of biomechanics that the department gets for each graduate of the program. We will also have a base underneath the pyramid with the names of every resident that he taught since he began teaching at VCU organized by team - with each team on one side of the pyramid. Any excess of funds donated will given as a gift to Dr. Lindauer at graduation

<div>Sadie had a way of making everyone smile - all of the time. She lived life to the fullest no matter what she was doing. Much of Sadie's time was spent in and around the pool, at practice, at swim meets, and simply being with people. Sadie swam because of the friends she made at the pool and for the love of the sport - so how can we foster this in other kids?

<div>In response to your outreach, we created a way to accommodate people's desire to contribute something tangible to remember Sadie. Because Sadie never met a stranger on the pool deck, we hope to honor her enthusiasm for swimming in our community by using all contributions to partner with the City of Harrisonburg to create a "Swim by Second" program. The "Swim by Second" program will offer City of Harrisonburg residents in kindergarten through second grade the opportunity to learn how to swim for free. The swim lessons will be multi-week packages offered through the City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation, and this ongoing program funded by these donations was approved by Harrisonburg City Council on February 27, 2024. What better way to honor Sadie's memory than to take everything Sadie embodied through swimming and share that with other kids who need to learn to swim? We opened a Fidelity Charitable Giving Account, which can be used to support non-profit and municipal projects, and we will directly transfer all contributions from this GoFundMe memorial initiative to that "Swim for Sadie Memorial Fund" to be used to support the "Swim By Second" initiative through the City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation Department.
