<div><strong>Not too long ago my daughter Jackie, an avid hiker, found herself in a perilous predicament.</strong> With escaping daylight and dropping temperatures, she and her companions required rescue off of Mt. Lemmon. Nearly 6 hours after calling for help the SAR team reached their hiking group and the 3 of them and 2 dogs were air lifted in the dead of winter and the dark of night from the top of the mountain.

<div>It was this life changing experience that sparked the passion to give back to help others who may be missing, hurt and needing rescue. Since that time, she has dedicated herself and her canines, to training towards certification and mission ready status.

<div>Jackie is very dedicated to this process and her passion to serve and ease suffering is powerful and authentic. We are in desperate need for search and rescue canines that are trained to provide this service to the community at large. Please consider taking action to support her training.

<div>Volunteer search and rescue (SAR) K9 handlers are dedicated individuals who selflessly devote their time, energy, and resources to training and deploying their dogs for the critical mission of locating missing persons. Unlike professional organizations with funding, these volunteers often bear the full financial burden of their efforts. The cost of training, equipment, travel, and certification can be substantial. Additionally, handlers like Jackie invest countless hours in rigorous training sessions to ensure not only her dog, but she also has the skills necessary to deploy. Your support will directly contribute to their training.

<div>To reach her goal, Jackie, Gaia &amp; Deja, need to undergo specialized one-on-one mentorship training this fall, with follow-up workshops next year. This intensive training is crucial for Gaia and Deja to hone their skills in an effort to pass the rigorous certification process. However, as a volunteer, Jackie must cover all the costs for training, gear, and travel out of pocket. The expenses add up quickly. Which is why I’m asking for your help.

Help Fund Jackie's K9 Search & Rescue Training!

<div>We’re the McNamara’s - Steph, Sean, and our daughter Molly who is on the autism spectrum. Our dream is to open Molly’s Reach Retreat, which will be the first retreat space on the East Coast of Canada that will primarily cater to the neurodivergent community. When we refer to the neurodivergent community in this we are referring to kids who have been diagnosed with a developmental or learning disorder; such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or Tourette's syndrome. The Government of Canada states ‘Approximately 1 in 66 children and youth are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Canada’. In Nova Scotia that number is 1 in 34 children. We feel that in this end of the country we need to have a place for neurodivergent children and their caregivers to go to and be completely themselves with other families who just “get it”. We are determined to build a retreat where kids and families can come to recharge, renew and rejuvenate.

<div>Molly’s Reach will be located on beautiful river side land in Big Baddeck, Cape Breton. There are wonderful amenities only minutes away such as Uisge Ban Falls which is a beautiful hiking trail only 4 kms down the road from where Molly’s Reach will be. There is also a well maintained golf course only 2 kms down the road and an incredible music and event centre called ‘The Vicars Venue’ where musicians from all over Canada (and the world!) come to play concerts and shows. Molly’s Reach will also be located only 10 minutes from the village of Baddeck which is a very vibrant and active community in Cape Breton. Baddeck is located right on the Bras d’Or Lakes and there are many opportunities for families visiting Molly’s Reach to enjoy what Baddeck has to offer. Molly’s Reach Retreat will be in an incredible location for neurodivrgent kids and their families to really take advantage of the nature that surrounds this little piece of paradise. With the Cabot Trail only a few kilometres away we hope to be the home base for these families before they set off for all the Cabot Trail adventures waiting down the road, or the laid back pals waiting for the road weary travellers after they’ve seen and done it all!

Help Molly’s Reach Retreat Get Up And Running!

<div>Cora-Lee’s husband George had a fall resulting in (unbeknownst to him) a head injury last weekend. Thinking he was fine, he carried on with normal activities. However, while at work on Tuesday, he had a seizure. His condition deteriorated quickly, and by Tuesday evening, the neurosurgeon in Halifax indicated it was an “unsurvivable injury” and that he had clinical signs of life.
</div>

</div>
<div>As George wished to be an organ donor, that process was started immediately. However, unexpectedly, he began to become clinically (but not cognitively) responsive. The ICU team made it clear that this was a significant injury and that even if George survived, he would likely have severe disability.
</div>
<div>George was a strong, independent man who always made it clear he would not want to live that way. George’s immediate family will start arriving over the weekend, after which measures to prolong life will be removed.
</div>

</div>
<div>Losing a soulmate is devastating enough without having to contend with the loss of George's income. Cora-Lee will have to cover travel and funeral expenses. Winter months are coming, and all the house maintenance jobs that George had on his 'to-do' list will now need to be done by another tradesman. All of this is in addition to the regular winter bills: additional heating, car maintenance, snow removal etc.

<div>Our local community has lost a colourful, eccentric British gent who always had a smile and a funny story to tell. He was an artist, a chef and a skilled handyman.
</div>
<div>George &amp; Cora-Lee enthralled diners at their amazing 'Feasting &amp; Frolicking' events, creating wild and imaginative delicacies to the delight of many, many visitors over the years.
</div>

Help Cora-Lee get through this difficult period

Arunay Pruthi Search and Rescue Effort

On August 14, 2020, my son, Justin was hit by a vehicle coming at him in the opposite direction. The Jaws of Life were used to remove him from his vehicle, and he was unconscious and not breathing. The Dr. initially told me that Justin would probably not make it past two weeks and if he did, the best-case scenario for him would be life in a vegetative state.<br /><br />Justin spent nearly three weeks in a coma and finally woke up seven days ago. He has made amazing progress in just a short time. Justin is breathing on his own and no longer on a ventilator. He has started to speak, and his speech is becoming clearer every day. Justin knows the names of immediate family members and he knows his name. His feeding tube has been removed and he is able to be feed regular food. Justin has made amazing progress with physical therapy as well. Justin can move his arms, legs, and his whole body. Physical therapy has been working with him to regain his strength, mobility, and coordination.<br /><br />The Neurologist and Therapists are amazed by Justin’s recovery and believe that he can recover from this injury. Justin is young and focused on working hard to get better.  Currently, I am trying to coordinate Justin’s transfer to a specialized facility that can treat his brain injury and offer specific therapies to help him regain his abilities and his life.<br /><br />Like many in America, Justin became unemployed in April due to the pandemic and he lost his employee health insurance. This fund is for Justin’s medical and recovery costs. He can recover but he needs specialized care. Only one day before Justin woke up, the hospital caseworker made arrangements to send him to a remote live-in facility to remain there in a coma infinitely without any continued treatments or therapies. Thankfully, he woke up the day prior and I advocated for him to stay and receive more treatment/services but the hospital wants to release Justin. The caseworker informed me that they "don't want to get stuck with him".  She is planning to discharge him next week. At the recommendation of Justin's Neurologist, I am working to ensure Justin's transfer to a specialized rehabilitation center, given his miraculous recovery and progress at this time. <br /><br />Please help Justin continue his amazing recovery and receive the specialized treatment he needs.<br /><br />All donations will be greatly appreciated. Raising Funds for Justin's Medical Bills

On September 14, 2020, Duane Correa Jr. was called home to heaven.  There are no words to express how heartbroken we are at the tragic loss of such a wonderful son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. While we have peace that he is embraced in the arms of God, the sudden loss of our Duane boy is unfathomably hard to accept. <br /><br />Duane was such a brilliant, sweet and loving person. At 20 years old, he was just beginning to live the extraordinary life that was ahead of him. His smile made you feel that everything was going to be okay.
