<div>Our friend Joey Merz, an incredible artist, illustrator and graffiti writer, has been battling Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 2013. His talent has left a lasting impression on NYC's art scene and graffiti community, but the challenges of MS have made it difficult for him to make ends meet.

<div>Despite his unwavering determination, Joey faces daily obstacles due to MS. He has been denied disability benefits multiple times and relies on odd jobs, which are increasingly difficult to maintain.

<div><strong><em>DECK WGF</em></strong>, was a talented graffiti artist from Brooklyn, New York. Deck, who had been a vibrant part of the graffiti and street art scenes in New York and Houston. He was one of the nicest, most genuine people to ever live and he will be greatly missed.

</div>
<div>DECK WGF began his journey as a graffiti artist in 1985, although it wasn't until 1998 that he made a significant impact on the New York graffiti scene. Known for his prolific street bombing in the late 90s, Deck took a break in 2002 and moved to Texas in search of a new beginning. By 2007, he rejoined the art scene and continued to make his mark.

<div>Deck, also known as Ray Ski and Jace in his early years, adopted the name DECK in 1989 due to his admiration for the flow and structure of the letters. His influences included notable figures from the Brooklyn graffiti community, such as TEKAY, Kies, Fogs, Chino, LC, and many others.

<div>Six months after the 9/11 attacks, DECK needed a change of scenery and relocated to Houston, where he connected with local artists like Vague, Akira, and Gonzo 247. By 2009-2010, he had solidified his presence in the Houston graffiti scene.

<div>DECK WGF was renowned for his unique and vibrant prints, graffiti, and mixed media artwork. His work often featured bold colors and pop culture references, emphasizing creativity and self-expression. Deck was involved in various projects, including curating art shows, and his art was a blend of street art and pop art, often incorporating themes of nostalgia and contemporary social commentary.

<div>His creations ranged from prints and canvases to custom-designed t-shirts and sneakers. In Houston, Deck's work is well-recognized, and he was a staple at the Houston Graffiti Park, often selling his art and shirts directly from the back of his car.

Deck's Celebration of Life

In these unbelievably difficult times, it breaks our hearts to be unable to employ our own staff.  No one saw this coming, and it leaves our wonderful, thoughtful, hardworking employees without income.  With no guarantees to reopen anytime soon, we hope that the public can help the Doris staff pay some bills.  <br /><br />We will reopen ! We will lift the gates, unlock that big yellow door, and serve up El Supremo's to the wee hours of the night. Doris Staff Relief Fund

Dear friends and family of Per &amp; Erika,<br /><br />Please help support Per Billgren with his rehabilitation journey after surgery and almost two months in the ICU and acute rehab at Bellevue hospital. He and his wife Erika have had a rough couple of months and still face a long road ahead.  They need our urgent support to help them through this recovery. Here is what has happened in Per's own words.....<br /><br /><strong>On May 31 I had a crazy medical emergency that has led Erika and I to reach out to our network of friends and family for support.</strong><br /><strong><br />I was on my way to an acupuncture appointment for what I thought was a pinched nerve in my back when I abruptly lost all sensation in the soles of my feet and collapsed on the street in front of our house.  A neighbor helped me to the curb and called 911 for an ambulance. Upon arriving at the hospital it was determined that the cause of my collapse was sepsis. After an MRI the doctors discovered that the MRSA bacteria had found its way to a herniated disc in my upper spine. At this point I had lost sensation in all of my extremities. Emergency neurosurgery was recommended so I immediately went under the knife.</strong><br /><br /><strong>After a successful vertebrae fusion and draining of the MRSA abscess that had formed around  my spine, I aspirated and got a bad case of pneumonia. It ended up taking a while before I could breathe or expel (or talk trash) on my own. After 8 long weeks of ICU and acute therapy at Bellevue, I eventually overcame all of that and started working on the use of my upper body.</strong><br /><br /><strong>I am now out of the hospital, off antibiotics, and in a sub acute nursing / rehab facility where I can continue to work on my arm, hand, and core strength. The feeling is back in my arms and legs and I’m making good progress. My short term goal is to be able to move from my bed to my wheelchair and go for a spin in the neighborhood. The legs will follow. For now I can at least wiggle my toes.
