<div>Hi, my name is David, I'm a film critic, and every year I cut together my 25 favorite films of the past 12 months into a very long video countdown for some reason. You can watch them all <a href="https://www.videocountdowns.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">on this website</a> if you want.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The 2023 video is now live. I prefer it on Vimeo, but here's the YouTube
</div>
<div><br />
</div><iframe media_type="0" media_id="5q2ldMVUSag" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5q2ldMVUSag/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>To help justify the embarrassingly absurd amount of time it takes me to make them, I've also used these videos as opportunities to fundraise for a series of invaluable non-profits.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For each of the last few years, I've partnered with the director of my #1 film to decide where the funds should go:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>For the 2020 video, "Time" director Garrett Bradley selected the Rich Family Ministries, and thanks to the generosity of people on the internet, we exceeded our $10,000 goal and raised $13,700.
</li>
<li>For the 2021 video, THE POWER OF THE DOG director Jane Campion selected a trio of vital Texas abortion funds, and we ultimately raised $22,660 against our $20,000 goal.
</li>
<li>For the 2022 video/2023 fundraiser, AFTERSUN director Charlotte Well selected a New York City non-profit called Food with Fam that provides meals to food-insecure families in Brooklyn, and we raised $25,945 against our $25,000 goal.
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This year, I've unilaterally made the decision to donate any and all funds received to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, a top-rated charity whose recent efforts have been dedicated towards providing urgent relief to displaced children and families in Gaza. I encourage you to visit <a href="https://www.pcrf.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the PCRF's website</a> and read about how donations like yours — through fundraisers like this — have directly impacted living conditions in Gaza. They've provided water, medical supplies, critical essentials like baby formula, and so much more to people in the most desperate of need. With your help, I would love nothing more than to support this life-or-death mission amidst an ongoing genocide.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>100% of the donated funds will go directly to the PCRF thru this GoFundMe.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This additional incentive has never been so obviously meaningless by comparison, but — as always — I'll commit to making another one of these videos for the movies of 2024 if we hit our goal of $30,000 (and with two small kids, that's not a commitment I make lightly).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These are hard times, and I understand that soliciting donations — even to the most valuable of causes — is a lot to ask. But this silly video is somehow the best leverage I have to help marshal urgently needed aid towards one of the worst humanitarian crises of my lifetime, so I sincerely hope those of you who can afford to give will join me in doing so. No amount is too small, and no amount is too big. Actually, I'm sure <em>some </em>amount is too big for the GoFundMe platform to handle, but, uh, I'd be happy to find that out the hard way.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>THANK YOU SO MUCH!
</div>

<div>More information about The PCRF: The PCRF provides free medical care to children in the Middle East, regardless of their nationality or religion, who do not have access to the care they need. To accomplish this we operate a wide variety of programs that range from meeting the monthly medical needs of children with chronic conditions, to bringing volunteer surgical teams to the Middle East to perform life-changing and life-saving procedures and train local medical staff to creating the first pediatric cancer department in Palestine.

<div>I’m organizing this for my dear friend Jon (who you may know as @jonnyknits). His dad was a Vietnam War refugee, an avid stamp collector, and a McDonald’s coffee fan. He suffered from a stroke a few weeks ago, and after many complications he passed away at the end of May. There are a lot of funeral-related expenses, and we’d really appreciate any donations to help make the process as smooth and peaceful as possible. Thank you!

Funeral expenses for Philip Le

<div>Ivi, a determined young woman aspiring to become an optometrist, faces financial challenges in their college journey, leading to setbacks and a necessary gap year. Despite this unplanned pause, they gain insights into financial resilience and the importance of timely support for educational aspirations. Ivi envisions optometry as a blend of science and creativity, likening the optometrist to a scientific artist for the eyes. However, the loss of scholarships due to insufficient credits introduces unexpected challenges, prompting her commitment to reclaiming lost opportunities and securing additional support. Ivi's narrative is one of triumph over adversity, highlighting the delicate balance between academic requirements and financial aid. They express hope for renewed support to not only reinstate lost opportunities but also forge ahead with a steadfast commitment to their educational goals, envisioning a future marked by academic excellence, resilience, and the realization of their dream.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>So Why Howard University?</strong>
</div>
<div>Ivi's decision to attend Howard University reflects a deliberate choice to be immersed in the unparalleled academic and cultural environment that an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) like Howard has to offer. Drawn to the rich legacy and vibrant community of Howard, Ivi sought an educational experience that goes beyond conventional boundaries. Howard's commitment to academic excellence, coupled with its historic significance in nurturing leaders and trailblazers, aligns with Ivi's aspirations for their journey. The university's state-of-the-art facilities not only provide cutting-edge resources but also foster an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates diversity and empowers students to excel. By choosing Howard, Ivi embraces the unique blend of tradition, innovation, and community that defines the HBCU experience, positioning herself to thrive academically and contribute meaningfully to the legacy of excellence at Howard University.

</div>
<div><strong>What exactly are these donations going toward? </strong>
</div>
<div>The generous contributions received through the GoFundMe campaign are instrumental in bridging a critical gap in Ivi's educational journey. At this moment, the financial aid available falls short of covering the necessary tuition and fees, making the support from the GoFundMe donations invaluable. Your contributions are directly contributing to ensuring that Ivi can access the education Ivi aspires to, overcoming financial barriers that might have otherwise hindered their academic progress. Every donation is a beacon of hope, allowing them to focus on their studies and pursue their goals without the burden of unmet financial obligations. Your belief in the power of education and your tangible support are making a significant difference in their life, and Ivi is profoundly grateful for the opportunity to continue my education with your assistance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Financial Breakdown </strong>
</div>
<div>Currently, Ivi is striving to raise a total of $10,000 to address an outstanding balance of $6,000 and cover essential housing costs. The journey hasn't been easy, as they navigate challenges such as recent financial aid changes and the resumption of student loan repayments by the Federal Government. In the pursuit of their education, they are actively applying for scholarships and earnestly pleading with the financial aid office to reinstate their Federal Unsubsidized Loan, along with the two scholarships awarded during their freshman year that were intended to support me until graduation. Your continued support and generosity mean the world to them, and they are truly grateful for any contributions you can offer to help them reach their goal.

Ivi’s College Fund

Our dear Friend, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Brother in law, Cousin and Uncle, Mark Gonzalez tragically passed away Saturday, August 11th at the young age of 40. Mark was truly one of a kind and he adored his family and friends. Always being there for everyone, whether it was to work on their car, fixer upper projects, grill tacos, coach the kids or just to make us all laugh. Even more devastating, he leaves behind his beautiful wife Diana, and 5 amazing children. Mark Jr, Samantha, Roxanne, Marlee and Eli. As you can imagine, a loss is overwhelming in itself. If you would like to contribute and help ease some of this burden off of the family, it will greatly be appreciated!<img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137850635423_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137850635423_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137864412047_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137864412047_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137877563680_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137877563680_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137889766482_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137889766482_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137903150402_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137903150402_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137917912713_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137917912713_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137934310703_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137934310703_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32100206_1534137953273916_r.jpeg" alt="32100206_1534137953273916_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />
