Five experienced facilitators will lead 16 female veterans through this 4-day, all-inclusive healing weekend. Warrior Songs also offers the Story to Song program during the retreat; creating a song with the group from their experiences and shared testimonies of service and sacrifice. Songs created on past retreats can be heard featured on “If You Have to Ask… Warrior Songs Vol 1”, “Women at War: Warrior Songs Vol. 2”, all online music retailers -and- <a href="http://www.warriorsongs.org">www.warriorsongs.org </a> Warrior Songs' retreats have been structured on the work of our good friend, Dr. Ed Tick. In his book “War and The Soul”, Dr. Tick outlines the Warriors' journey and points to how good society is at sending our service members off to war- but, how we often fail at welcoming them home. He points out the need for civilians to share the burden and responsibility for the actions of the veterans who went to war and served in their name. It’s an oversimplification of Dr. Tick’s work, but put simply, in order for veterans to heal from the psychological and emotional wounds of war, veterans need to be able to communicate the truth of their experience and civilians need to hear it. This is the final step in bringing our veterans home. Warrior Songs retreats culminate with an art show and presentation open to the public and gathered community to come see -and- hear the works of each healing service member. The 2019 art show will take place at La Casa at the Franciscan Renewal Center at 7pm on November 23rd, 2019. Warrior Songs invites you to mark your calendars to hear the truth of these warriors and welcome them each home! What is MST? According to the Veterans Administration, National Center for PTSD, 1 in 4 women -and- 1 in 100 men have reported being sexually assaulted in the military.  Although, for men it is more likely, to be much higher, based on underreporting, due to the shame that results. The VA refers to, military sexual trauma or MST, as sexual assault or harassment experienced during military service.  The experience ranges from sexual harassment, being threatened or pressured, into sexual activities, being touched, in a way that makes one uncomfortable, sexual contact without consent, such as when asleep or intoxicated, and being physically forced, to have sex (rape). Most women, who have experienced MST, have also been diagnosed, with post-traumatic-stress-disorder, and live in a world of isolation and disconnection, anxiety, depression, self-blame and shame, chronic physical health problems, and homelessness. Unfortunately, many feel resentment towards the military, the VA, and as a result do not identify themselves as being a veteran.  The VA offers traditional inpatient and outpatient treatment - along with medication, psychoeducational groups and recreational therapy.  Although, these are still limited services for women MST survivors seeking treatment in a non-threatening environment, at times and in conjunction with the traditional treatment, a more holistic approach, for the mind, body, spirit--- such as yoga, equine, art &amp; music therapy with social supports and connections is found to be more effective and long-lasting healing for MST survivors. Why the Creative Arts? Healing from MST and PTSD requires processing the experience and the trauma, but recounting their experience in a detailed linear account often aggravates PTSD.  Many are triggered by the memory and so they try to repress the memories. They isolate, they avoid, they self-medicate…they do everything they can to not remember. PTSD from MST makes it very difficult for veterans to talk about their experience. But, there are other ways to get to the trauma that doesn’t require a linier detailed account.... enter the creative arts! Creative arts allows you to paint a feeling, or the part of the story you are ready to tell. Also, when we show the art, we communicate truth without having to be the subject of the conversation.  Instead of the listener looking at the military veteran eye to eye, (which can be disempowering and very uncomfortable) both the civilian and the veteran can look at the artwork together--- adding a layer of protection for the veteran. The creative arts allow the veteran to explore what they are ready to talk about in a way that isn’t as triggering as traditional talk therapy. Integrated into the retreat programming is educational pieces about how PTSD effects the brain and symptom management methods such as relaxation, mindfulness and breathing techniques.  How much does the retreat cost the attending veterans? That’s the best part--- it’s completely free to any veteran who applies with an honest desire to heal. The 2019 retreat focuses on female veterans coping with MST. Warrior Songs provides transportation, lodging, activities and meals. The art supplies are all provided and the veterans need absolutely no art experience to participate. All the veteran needs to do is show up. It may sound simple - but, we have witnessed miraculous healing from these retreats. Veterans write us afterwards to tell us how much Warrior Songs has changed their lives.  How much does it cost Warrior Songs to host? Founder, Jason Moon and the Warrior Songs team has assembled a fantastic staff of facilitators --- all donating their time and expertise to this year's retreat. Warrior Songs is hosting a 4-day creative arts retreat for veterans with PTSD on December 6th-10th, 2017 at The Siena Center in Racine, WI. This retreat is free to the veterans selected to participate. This is where we need your help. We’ve assembled a fantastic team of facilitators who are all donating their time for this event.  The cost of the art supplies, transportation, lodging and food for 15 veterans and 6 staff for 4 days is $13,500 or $900 a veteran. Of this, we’ve raised $3,500 so we have $10,000 more to raise by November 2017.  It’s important to remember that every penny counts.  No donation is too small to help us help these veterans.  It breaks down to $9.38 an hour for each veteran who attends.  $10 donations add up to a $40 donation, which covers a morning art session.  $75 is 8 hours of a veterans healing.  $225 covers a full day of one veteran to attend. Get Warrior Songs to California to Heal Veterans Through Music Warrior Songs needs your help to reach more veterans through music! We need assistance with travel expenses out to the West Coast.  Jason Moon, Executive Director/Founder of Warrior Songs is travelling to Los Angeles, California to receive an award at the Global Peace Song Awards Ceremony. His song, “Trying to Find My Way Home” won the people’s choice award in the folk category for 2016.  It is exciting to receive such honors, but expensive to travel! We just released Warrior Songs Vol. 1, our 1st Story to Song album this past November and much of our funding went to support this project, so our funds are limited for the trip. Warrior Songs is maximizing this trip. Jason will be doing work with several veterans’ organizations while in California. He begins the trip in San Diego, CA where he will perform at The Veterans Village, a sanctuary for homeless veterans.  He then heads to LA to attend the Global Peace Song Awards ceremony and perform at the organization, Wellness Works as part of a Veterans Initiative program. With more support from you, Warriors Songs will be able to be at more venues while on this trip. We want to plan more, but need funds to do so. With what we have planned right now, Warrior Songs will reach approx. 75 veterans, but we would love to double that number! The trip is scheduled for February 8th-13th, 2017. What we need! Get Warrior Songs to the West Coast

Steve Acheson and Steph Krueger started Peacefully Organic Produce, a veteran- led CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in 2014 with a mission to grow healthy organic food as well as to provide a peaceful place for Veterans to return home from the military, assimilate back into society, and realize the healing power of working in the soil. The farm was also established in part because Steve and Steph were realizing the Veteran unemployment rates are double the civilian population and 22 vets commit suicide a day. They were finding more and more people with similar experiences or who needed to reconnect with the soil, each other, and be doing something productive and purposeful. Now a week away from their first CSA delivery of their third season Steve was admitted to the ER for emergency surgery. Steve was crushed by a tire from a Humvee back in 2005 while deployed to Sadr City, Iraq. He has had two previous surgeries in hopes of repairing this injury but it has only gotten worse. What Steve really needed was a specialist but was unable to receive this care at the VA. The emergency surgery was to address his Cauda Equina Syndrome which developed due to a severe re-herniation of his old injury and could possibly lead to permanent nerve damage. <img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/11919063_1464966479.3501_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /> Please consider donating so that POP's can sustain its produce for the year and Steve and Steph are supported in continuing the good work that they do. Moreover, this assistance will provide solid ground for Steve to recover upon. The bureaucratic nature of Veteran healthcare in our country is slow and sometimes altogether unresponsive. Steven is home from the hospital now and is three weeks out from his surgery. While Steven is up and moving about, he has been restricted from bending at the waist, cannot lift more than 10 pounds, and still has loss of feeling and nerve damage. As you can imagine, this severely limits his role on the farm and is extremely frustrating for someone who loves to be outdoors and on the go. His doctors are unable to provide a time frame for if/when this will improve. The donations from this campaign will be used to fund any ongoing medical expenses, along with helping to compensate Steven's younger brother, who has stepped up and into Steven's shoes. H is a very special, incredibly happy, 12 year old boy.  He is always smiling:)    We are preparing our home for him in many ways, but one major thing that we didn't consider was the need for a wheelchair accessible van.  This is extremely important to have.  It would be very taxing on Hadley to lift a 12 year old in and out of the vehicle multiple times a day.       H will be moving in with us on April 1st.  We will be purchasing a 2004 wheelchair accessible van.  Our goal is to raise $20,000 by then.  A pretty lofty goal, I know, but I believe we can do it.  Please give in any way you can to take the finacial burden off of our family and to bless us with a van for H.   We can't thank you all enough:) *update-Please don't use H's name in the donation comments.  Thank you!*

Introduction We’re all familiar with the 22 veterans a day statistic.  It’s a constant reminder that a veteran is taking his or her own life every 65 minutes.  Knowing this often leaves us feeling disheartened and powerless.  Veteran suicide is a systemic problem; it’s difficult to imagine that we can really do anything.  We say, if onlys. If only the military…  If only the VAs…  If only I could do something…  Well, you can do something!  This is a call to action!.  We need you!  Donate to a project that helps veterans to heal by telling their stories. Warrior Songs is looking to raise $5500.00 through Go Fund Me, to complete our Story to Song CD: Warrior Songs Vol. 1  Story to Song Project The cornerstone project of Warrior Songs, Story to Song, compiles the stories, poems, painting, and testimonies of veterans, which are turned into songs by accomplished songwriters.  Through the cathartic process of sharing their story, the veteran no longer has to carry the burden of their trauma alone. When other veterans hear these stories it serves to normalize their experience. Transforming and externalizing the trauma help the veteran to heal while simultaneously creating a tool to help educate the public to the realities of war.  These songs are then recorded and released on a compilation CD (Warrior Songs Vol 1) which is then distributed to veterans free of charge and at cost to the many organizations that work with veterans, such as Veteran Hospitals, Vet Centers, and our many ally’s across the nation.  Current Status of Warrior Songs Vol 1 Fifteen stories have been turned into song.  The topics range from military initiation, deployment, combat stress, military sexual trauma, life or death decisions, reintegration, healing and hope, and much more. Our mission is to assist veterans in more fully understanding and integrating all aspects of the military experience by transforming their traumatic experiences and struggles into an art form that both inspires and is life affirming, thus motivating their continued healing.  We also provide educational opportunities for nonmilitary community members to learn more about veteran issues (Post Traumatic Stress, Military Sexual Trauma, and Traumatic Brain Injury).  Donations to Warrior Songs are tax-dedcutable.  About the Founder of Warrior Songs Jason Moon is a veteran of the Iraq war and has traveled over 250,000 miles performing over 200 shows for over 5000 veterans and over 15,000 civilians.  His work has prevented over 32 suicides.  Over 8000 copies of Trying to Find My Way Home have been distributed to veterans and veteran healers.  Trying to Find My Way Home is a concept album about Jason Moon’s personal struggle with PTSD. Music therapists and healers at VA hospitals and healing centers around the country use this album as a tool to break through to veterans and help them heal.  During his travels, Jason collected the stories and testimonies of numerous veterans and has been working with songwriters to turn them into songs.
