<div>Hi, my name is Karrie. Three months ago , I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the splenic flexure — a rare and challenging spot to treat. I’ve always been healthy, active, and hard-working, but this diagnosis turned my life upside down.

<div>I’ve completed four rounds of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before surgery, and now I’m scheduled for major robotic colon surgery on August 20th. While I’m hopeful for a cure, the process is intense, and the recovery will be long. I’ve had to take time off work and face mounting out-of-pocket costs for appointments, scans, lab work, supplements, special food, and daily expenses.

<div>Recently, my doctors discovered new findings that have changed my treatment path. What was originally thought to be a localized colon cancer has now shown signs of spreading within the peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen). This means my case is more complex than we first hoped.
</div>

<div>Because of this, my team is now considering a highly specialized procedure called CRS-HIPEC (Cytoreductive Surgery with Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy). This is an aggressive but potentially life-extending surgery that involves removing visible tumors in the abdomen, followed by heated chemotherapy directly in the belly to kill microscopic cancer cells. It is a long and difficult surgery, but for patients like me, it may offer the best chance at controlling the disease.

<div>All of this comes with many unknowns — more appointments, more testing. The financial strain of missed work, ongoing medical bills, and preparing for the possibility of major surgery has been heavy.

<div>I wanted to share the latest update after my case was reviewed at the tumor board. My doctors came together to discuss the best treatment plan moving forward. After carefully reviewing all my scans and biopsy results, they decided that there isn’t enough evidence at this time to move ahead with the bigger surgery (CRS-HIPEC). Instead, the plan is to go forward with my colon surgery as scheduled.

<div>Originally this surgery was going to be robotic, but the team decided an open surgery would be best so they can carefully check and test the suspicious areas that showed up on imaging. This way, they can get a clearer picture of what’s really going on and make sure nothing is missed.

<div>This news is a mix of relief and uncertainty, but I’m trusting my doctors and focusing on the next step: getting through surgery and recovery. I’m so grateful for the team working hard on my case, and even more grateful for all of you who continue to support me through this rollercoaster. <div>Hi everyone. This is really tough to write. I’ve read countless stories like this, donated what I could to help save animals, and always felt a deep fear at the thought of ever needing to write one of my own.

<div>Last night, I called Joe at work and told him to rush home. Mowgli was wobbly, breathing heavy, and seemed in pain. We took him to an emergency vet who stabilized him, ran tests, and eventually told us that there is a tumor that has ruptured on his liver. We don’t know what kind of tumor yet and they don’t have a CT scan at this location, so we’re not sure of exact location on the liver. Mowgli has been declining rapidly and has already had to have a blood transfusion to keep him alive. We have made the decision to go through with surgery even though the outcomes are 50/50. We are hoping and praying he makes it through. This was incredibly sudden and we are distraught. We recently spent over $8,000 on surgery for my cat, pawdrey, who had a cancerous mass on her chin. So far, we have spent around $21,000 on Pawdrey and Mowgli’s treatments. I’m asking for any help any one is able to offer.

<div>Mowgli is the love of my life. He’s my best friend. I got sober for him and he helped keep me sober. Anyone who has met him knows how special he is. Whenever I’ve been in a mental health low, Mowgli pulls me out. I’m not ready to live without Mowgli and I do not believe it’s his time. Knowing him has changed me and losing him will change me. Please help us ease this financial burden as we figure out next steps and try to get our boy back home with us.

Help with vet bills for our angel boy

<div>On July 21st, <strong>Neil Burke</strong>, who some of you might know from Monoroid, Life's Blood, Men's Recovery Project, Menace Dement, Landed, and more, went to his doctor to check on some stomach pain, thinking he might have developed diverticulitis. Hours later, they discovered the problem was much more serious: a tear in his intestine where some leakage had occurred. This led to some pockets of infection which hit him hard. He fell to the ground in extreme pain later that evening, and his wife, Noelle, rushed him to the ER, where he was given morphine. They gave him a CT scan and told him he'd need emergency surgery. They weren't sure how things would go until they got inside and feared that they might need to remove some of his intestines.

<div>When he awoke from the 4-hour surgery, he was relieved that everything was left intact. They did a very thorough cleansing of his lower abdomen, then he spent nine days in the hospital for observation and recovery. The first few days were quite rough with very little sleep. He was eventually discharged but still finds himself bedridden on a slow road to recovery. He's left with a major 7 1/2" scar from the surgery and tubes they stuck in his abdomen. Now his main goal is to rest and heal so he can return to his normal routine.

<div>That all said, <strong>Neil finds himself in a bit of a financial strain from this major surgery</strong>. He does have health insurance but is unsure how much of the hospital stay it will cover and what other charges will show up from the stay and recuperation. Additionally, he's self-employed as a screen printer and has lost both current and upcoming jobs because of this medical emergency. So, he finds himself in a precarious situation. <strong>Anything contributed 100% goes to Neil and is beyond appreciated and helps him more than you know.</strong>

Mending Jo's Practically Perfect n Everyway Smile

<p>My grandmother, who raised me since I was a very young boy as her own son, was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, and was recently diagnosed with stage 3 lung &amp; lymph node cancer. My grandparents are spending all of their savings paying for her treatments and medications. It’s been hard to have my grandfather be honest with me about their finances but this money would pay for her first round of treatments + debts with large interest rates from her dementia medications and treatments and debts related to this.

<p>Losing the closeness I had with my grandmother over the past year because of dementia has been the hardest thing I have ever dealt with in my life. I typically ended most days with a short call to her to see what she had been up to, and she loved to ask how the record store has been, how goat is and what I was planning on doing on the weekends. I wouldn't trades all those hours of my life just chatting with anything.

<p>My grandma adopted me when my mother was murdered and father went to prison when I was a young child. <em>She</em> raised me, and I attribute all good parts of my personality to her sense of humor and huge heart. My grandfather and her have dedicated the latter part of their lives to helping everyone in our family, only to be taken advantage of over and over. I don't want to speculate, but I will say that if it were not for COVID-19 I could be making some changes and taking care of them myself right now, but the reality of being a small business owner over the past year and a half is nothing but mountains of debt. I hate asking anyone to help out, and I don't want anyone to donate even $1 if it's going to make their life any harder. If I can get a few hundred dollars together, or a thousand I will be ecstatic. <strong>My goal price would TOTALLY take care of everything that's not been paid for already and would keep them from having to go further into medical debts for everything that is already scheduled.</strong> There can, and there will inevitably be more, medical debt... but I am busting ass to be prepared for whatever is happening later this year with her treatment schedule. I just want to relieve the immediate stress of money from them from the past year+ so they can focus on being together, and enjoying some time being close.

<p>I also ask that if you know my grandparents... <strong>please respect their privacy</strong>. They are beyond stressed out right now and are shielding ambulance chasers, shitty relatives among regular life bs while all of this is happening. I also want to say the same for myself. I am not interested in speaking on the subject and my privacy on the matter is paramount to keep my head together. Thanks to my friends who have been there for me while this has wrecked my mental health.

Support for my grandparents

My sister Heather is one of the most compassionate and giving humans I can think of. Since at a young age she has been diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) an hereditary degenerative eye disease. She has night  and low light blindness. While total blindness is a rare occurrence on Wednesday she lost complete vision in her left eye. She was at work. She drives for a living as a wine rep. She went to an emergency optometrist and it was found that her retina in her left eye has completely detached. She has surgery on Friday. There’s no way she can afford this. She’s scared and hurt and going blind. If we can please pull together and help her in anyway it would mean so so much. She has shown so much light and goodness to this world please don’t let her go blind. Thank you for anything that you can do.
