<div>“My Dad supports us on his back.” When I was a young girl this thought would consume me as I tried to think about the life my dad had provided at a steep cost to himself. My father has worked in construction for over 25 years. He is the most hardworking man I have ever met and has always been a frenzy of activity with an inability to rest. My Dad lived and breathed his job. His blood and sweat turned into food, a home and the toys my brother and I craved. I felt guilty even as a child that my father’s job was so hard. I feel so immensely grateful for everything he has provided our family. He is a giver; he gives his time and money to his family. I saw firsthand the effect hard labor had on my father’s body. He was in pain frequently as age caught up to his body. It feels so cruel that the back that supported our family is the part of my father that is broken.

<div>On September 3rd my father took a nasty fall. He was sent to the hospital in a helicopter as his injuries were so severe. His spine broke in half and many ribs were fractured.  His spinal cord was injured and he has been paralyzed. Three days after the accident my father was taken into surgery and was in the trauma ICU for seven days. He has been at UT Medical Center in Knoxville for 13 days and will be going to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for five weeks of rehab. The cost of the center alone will be roughly $130,000 dollars. The cost of medical care, rehabilitation and mobility aids exceeds our family’s means which brings us here.

<div>My father gave and gave and never expected thanks or gratitude. He has almost superhuman levels of forgiveness. My father left home when he was fifteen in search of work and to make a life for himself. I have always been astounded by his courage and fortitude, he never gave up; he didn’t know how to. He persevered in the face of tragedy and hardship.  I love talking about how amazing my father is, I never thought that it would be in this context.

<div>This week my sister, Rachel and her family lost everything to the flooding in hazard Kentucky. Their home was washed away and with no insurance it’s going to be nearly impossible to replace everything.

<div>Yesterday, they were finally able to access the road to their home with 4 wheelers to see the remnants of what’s left. Madison, their daughter found the clothes left in the dryer were just about the only things that could be saved.

Losing everything to the floods in Kentucky

<div>Hello, my name is Katchrina Shavers. I am collecting money to help my mother and father, Jeff and Vicki Shavers, after they were rear-ended by a McMinn County School Bus.  My parents were waiting to turn left into their driveway when a McMinn County Tennessee School Bus driver failed to notice them stopped and trying to turn.  The school bus swerved at the last minute, clipping the passenger rear end of my dad's truck.  My dad was the driver and was able to walk away from the accident with minimal injuries.  However, my mother had a shattered C5 vertebra and had surgery to fuse her C4 to her C6 vertebrae.  They had to remove her shattered C5 vertebra and the disk around it.  She has been left completely paralyzed from the neck down.

He had been running a small washer and dryer repair business that helped them make the money they needed to get by.  Now that his truck is totaled and my dad has to drive every day up the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, he cannot run his small business where he worked by himself.

Mom Paralyzed By School Bus Rear End Collison

As you all know the COVID19 Pandemic has severely hurt our restaurant. We  have done everything we can to save it ourselves. We DID apply for the PPP and EIDL loans at several banks and were denied. We have poured our hearts, souls, blood, sweat, and tears into Rendezvous as well as exhausting all of our personal assets and savings.  Rendezvous isn’t a hobby for us, it is our dream and our passion. We have struggled to stay open the last few months just to be there for our friends in the community. Trust me we haven’t even close to paid anything in the process. We just kept showing up hoping we could be of service to patrons. We have built relationships in the Village that are so special to us. We love our guests because they have become part of our family. We got through a lot of hard days dreaming of better ones to come. We need to get our staff back and buy some food as well as catch up the past due bills at the restaurant. In just this short time we have fallen almost $30k in debt and if we can’t save the restaurant not only will we be devastated emotionally we will also be ruined financially and we will also lose our home. We are sad that we’ve been reduced to begging. We really thought we would get the loans and be fine but when that didn’t happen we lost control of the situation. If you know us personally you know that this isn’t even in our nature to beg ,but this is bigger than us. We need your help and every little bit counts. We know everyone is strained financially right now but if we all do what we can maybe we can get your favorite local restaurant back to business. Save Rendezvous Tellico Village

On September 10th, the Nicely family received a call that no one is prepared for. Meghan's parents, Ruben and Belinda Wilson, and her four year old daughter were in a horrible accident. Her parents did not survive the accident, but her daughter is alive. Her daughter has injuries in both ankles, a broken finger, and a broken nose. Meghan &amp; Chase will have to take time off work to take care of their daughter. She has a long road to recovery, but she is a strong little girl! This family has a lot they are going through at this time, and could use anything to help. They are a selfless family that would give what they can to others, even if they didn't have it.
