You may not have had the pleasure of meeting my amazing daughter, so I will introduce you.  Gabbi is a sophomore at Southwestern Oregon College on an academic scholarship, and on the swim team as well.<br /><br />Gabbi Kincaid ♥️ <br /><br />In September, Gabbi was at college training for a swim meet and started struggling to breathe.  We thought COVID-19, asthma, or exertion. We had no idea what was coming, and we were not prepared for what was found. The doctors found an 11 centimeter mass that engulfed the area around the heart and lungs. <br /><br />We were in shock. Gabbi said “Mama, I have a swim meet this weekend.” Gabbi went through test after test, and I had to tell her that the swim meet would have to wait. No 19 year old is ready to hear this, and no Mother can prepare for this news. We still needed more information, but I knew this was the biggest battle of our lives.<br /><br />Gabbi was diagnosed with a rare Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma B-Cell Stage III Cancer. The mass was growing faster than the doctors could understand. In less than a week the mass grew to 12 centimeters. It was surreal, the treatment plan started quickly, and aggressive, 6 months of chemotherapy delivered bi-weekly with the treatment plan in the hospital.<br /><br />As her Mother, all I wanted was to trade places with Gabbi, and take her pain away. This is the most complex, and difficult challenge I have ever faced in my life. As a former athlete, I knew we were going into a physical, mental, and emotional battle. The only way through this has been the power of prayer, support of family, and friends.<br /><br />Our Journey So Far<br /><br />Six months into the battle, I am proud to report Gabbi is responding like a champion! Treatment is so expensive, each week in the hospital has averaged $153,000. This does not include tests, medicine and blood transfusions. In addition, Gabbi’s immune system has weakened, and requires many treatments and services. Today, Gabbi’s treatment totals over 1 million dollars and we still aren't out of the woods yet. <br /><br />In a few weeks, on April 11th Gabbi is celebrating her 20th birthday. More importantly we are celebrating life, and this experience has given us a new perspective. We are living, praying, and leading our lives the best way we can to see many more birthdays, and life events. Gabbi is a fighter, and I am fighting for her too.
