<div>To know a Meck is to love a Meck! It's true!! Whether it is Kate and her always bubbly attitude; McKenna and her sweet and loving personality; Tanner and his craziness and love of sports; or Eric and his quiet yet oh, so funny dry humor. The Meck family is thoughtful, helpful, and all-around awesome. So, everyone was incredibly sad to hear the unfortunate news that Eric had been in pain for quite a while.

<div>Then in early January, we learned that it’s official…. Eric has the dreaded 'C word'. The technical term is colonic adenocarcinoma.

<div>He (and Kate) have been going back and forth to Penn since November/December 2022, along with other local doctors' appointments, trying to figure out what exactly was going on. Since that time he has had a few biopsies and procedures along with a lot of pain and discomfort. Next will be to meet with oncology which is predicting 3-4 months of chemotherapy and potentially additional surgeries.

<div>The next few months will certainly involve many trips to and from Penn, many hotel stays in Philadelphia, many meals outside of the home, and many, many medical bills. Lots of people have asked how they can help and while I'm sure none of us have the power to cure cancer, we <em>can</em> help to ensure there is less of a financial burden to their family while they are concentrating on Eric's health.

<div>In 2016, Kim courageously fought Stage 3 Breast Cancer. She endured aggressive chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and lymphadenectomy. Throughout my wife’s treatments, she remained defiant to the brutal illness that wanted to take her from us. Despite great physical pain, Kim wore a brave face to protect our three beautiful school age children Lily, Jack, and Jett from the harsh realities of what was happening to her body. Without complaint, Kim continued her duties as a loving mother, providing our kids with everything they needed, because that’s who she is. Kim fought and triumphed over cancer; she’s the toughest woman I’ve ever met.

<div>Kim is a beloved cornerstone of the small Pennsylvania hometown we grew up in together and remain in today. Kim’s a school secretary at Salem Elementary. Children routinely flock to her office every morning to start their day with a hug and positive energy. She’s infectiously bubbly, always full of energy, and her frequent giggles fill people with happiness. People are immediately enamored by Kim, they never forget her, and likewise, she doesn’t forget them because her enthusiasm for people is real.

<div>Kim, and our family, enjoyed eight wonderful years of remission, but now, she must fight again. This past spring, Kim was dealt a devastating blow when she learned the cancer has come for her again. Kim is now fighting Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer, which has spread to her liver, lungs, and bones. Kim is determined to put cancer in its place once again, but she needs your help to do it.

<div>Kim recently received incredible treatment at a top medical facility. We were blown away by the attention from the nursing staff, doctors, staff in general. Every single nurse took on Kim’s fight as their own. Cancer’s attack on her was taken personally by these nurses and they cried with us at night as she struggled in pain. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, the cancer continues to advance, and her pain has become unbearable. Still, when in the presence of family and friends, Kim is all smiles. You can see the toll the cancer has taken on her body, but if you close your eyes, you still hear her laughter and feel the joy she radiates.

<div>Though the hospital could not cure Kim, hope emerged when we read the story of Christen Archer Pierrot. A mother of three who was also diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Now at Envita Personal Oncology Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, she’s in almost 2 months of treatment and seeing incredibly miraculous results.

<div>Our goal is to get Kim to Envita. They’ve successfully treated hundreds of patients with late-stage metastatic cancer by employing novel methods to address the root cause of cancer. Their holistic healing approach supports patients not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. They have the facilities and knowledge to save Kim.

<div>The financial burden of treatment, travel, lodging, and food at Envita is substantial, and Kim needs your beautiful generosity to get her there. We set our goal based on the minimum we calculated for travel and treatment for an estimated 4 months of treatment.

My Husband been battling kidney disease been in and out of hospital until his last hospiliztion we found out he has stage 2B Pancreatic cancer they say he has a year to 18 months of survival. Who puts a timeline on that. My husband and I and our 16 year old son been dealing with so many hardship. And struggles of my husband health. My husband is a fighter and strong he is amazing Father and Husband and a good man. We can use all the help we can get for his medical and hardship. My family is heartbroken.. Yesterday afternoon my sister and her family suffered a house fire. Everyone included their dog got out safely. The fire was contained to the back of the house, but at this point they are not quite sure what belongings are salvageable. Everything in the rest of the home has smoke/ water damage.  Insurance will help them rebuild their home, but right now their family doesn't have clothing, hygiene essentials, or any of the kids toys, books, and sports equipment. Any help would be so appreciated by my family and I. <br /><br />They will also need all new household supplies for wherever they are placed for the months it will take to rebuild their home. <br /><br />Thank you so much for reading and considering helping. Funeral expenses for Eugene Albrecht

On February 25the the world lost a truly beautiful soul.  Josie Kearns passed away unexpectedly in her sleep, leaving behind her loving husband of 40 years, Randy.  <br /><br />Josie was genuinely kind and caring; a devoted wife, friend, sister, mother and grandmother.  She had been Randy's rock and support through his two bouts with cancer.  Her untimely death leaves a space in his heart and the hearts and lives of everyone who knew her.  <br /><br />When we asked Randy how to best support him during this difficult time, his primary concern was funeral costs.  We appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity as we remember Josie and help Randy.  Thank you.  <br /><br />Sincerely, The Kearns Family

Due to the Flash Flooding overnight on June 19-20th, Cambridge Commons experienced flooding of up to 6 feet of water inside some of the apartment homes. Not only are many of our residents affected, but also several employees of Metropolitan Companies. Both Kristi Verrechio and Barry King are residents of CCA, and Dave Brugger's home also flooded. Kristi is MMG's property auditor, Barry is the Maintenance Supervisor at Oak Meadows and Dave is the Maintenance Technician at Oak Meadows. <br /><br />We are asking for donations to help our colleagues with some of the expenses that they are now unexpectedly facing. At this point, we know that they have lost much of their furniture and personal belongings, and cars have even been completely filled with water. Any amount you can donate is truly appreciated!

Flood Impacts Metropolitan Employees

The brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi - Epsilon Kappa (Albright College, Reading, PA) have a special place in our hearts for our Brother Art Bromirski, or as the Albright Community knows him, Sergeant Art.  <br /><br />Sgt. Art has been battling cancer for some time now and has recently become hospitalized, requiring emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding that has developed as a complication from his treatment.  After multiple operations Art has been recovering well and his test results have come back looking good.  The Brotherhood would like to pull together the resources of the Albright Community and any person who has been lucky enough to meet Sgt. Art in an effort to support him financially in a time of need.  We are asking that you donate whatever you are able to for this cause; if you are unable to donate at this time we ask that you share this around social media in hopes that we may raise as much as possible to aid one of our highly influential members of our Albright Community. <br /><br />Art joined the Albright Community around 30 years ago, and as he will tell you, he fell in love with the College and never looked back.  He is known for being the College Greeter, often having the opportunity and privilege to interact with almost everyone who comes to campus, whether they are a current student, perspective student, alumni, or simply a visiting guest.  Prior to joining the Albright Community, he obtained a Bachelor’s of Art in Foreign Affairs from Assumption College.  Art went on to work as a team member at Warner Books, a division of Warner Communications in New York, where in 1976 he was awarded for being the representative with the highest unit sales and dollar volume nationwide.  His successes continued at Albright College where his charming personality earned him the Alumni Association Service Award in 2004, and the Albright College Pride Award in 2009.  In his own words “our students are a pleasure to serve and a joy to know.  They are the greatest gift of Albright College.”  Sgt.
