Our older and very young family members are malnourished and have lost a significant amount of weight.

<div>Due to the lack of electricity and internet access, my wife and I lost our jobs. I was in digital marketing and my wife was a content writer and translator. I led my own team to introduce marketing and digital development managing services for businesses.

We needed to cancel this fundraiser due to multiple platform problems leading to family and friends not having the ability to send us anything from their devices.

We can’t leave, therefore we have to pay the prices demanded by wherever we go. Fresh produce and meat are very expensive and rare.

<div>Our Belgium friend can no longer manage our campaign due to personal circumstances. Fortunately, we reached out to our close friend Alisha in New York, United States. She agreed to receive the money and directly internationally wire us to our Bank of Palestine. Our hope is restored, once again. Every kind act you give, changes our lives forever. $5 truly DOES help us. That is equivalent to the price of one small plastic water bottle of clean water.

<div>We face multiple illnesses drinking contaminated water. But in the summer, you can imagine we are parched. We need our young children and elder’s to be hydrated. The hospitals are not safe. We are waiting for the border to reopen.

<div>We will need to use money raised from this campaign to also buy more food as we wait. We try to eat as much canned food as possible because it is the cheapest, but our babies are young. They need vegetables and fruits to sustain their young bodies.

<div>Iyass’ mother was supposed to have surgery for a herniated disc before Oct. 7 but the war started and we couldn't go through with it. Hospitals were bombed and there is no safe space to access the mandatory surgery. She is constantly in pain.

<div>In 2023, were on a medical journey in Egypt. Doctors advised us that he required special care, due to his lack of growth hormone. This became clear from the results of an x-ray that examined his bone growth. He also has asthma, and always gets tired when he jumps or runs.

<div>Jad had a nebulizer before Oct 7 to help him breathe properly, but since this pain started 9 months ago, he lost all the proper medicine, even the nebulizer.

<div>So, the reason why we have launched a new campaign is that we lost everything we had, literally, EVERYTHING. We lost our sweet home, we lost our jobs, we ended up living in a small tent. We consider it as a kitchen with a living room and bathroom. We see clearly that there is no life for us here in our homeland anymore, no promising future for our children.

<div>The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification recently reported there is a high risk of famine across the Gaza Strip, as attacks continue and humanitarian aid is restricted. “About 96 percent of the population in the Gaza Strip (2.15M people) face high levels of acute food insecurity through September 2024,” IFSPC reports. “While the whole territory is classified in Emergency (IPC Phase 4), over 495,000 people (22 percent of the population) are still facing catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 5). In this phase, households experience an extreme lack of food, starvation, and exhaustion of coping capacities. Another 745,000 people (33 percent) are classified in Emergency (IPC Phase 4.)”

<div>On Saturday, Nov 25th, 2023, Hisham — a 20 yr old junior at Brown University — and his childhood friends Kinnan and Tahseen were walking to Hisham's grandmother's house for dinner in Burlington, Vermont, when all three were shot in an unprovoked attack.

<div>We are thankful that all three will survive this attack, and Hisham's friends are expected to make a full recovery. For Hisham, however, one of the bullets that struck him is lodged in his spine and has left him paralyzed from the chest down.

<div>Hisham's first thoughts were for his friends, then for his parents who were thousands of miles away. He has demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience and fortitude - even a sense of humor - even as the reality of his paralysis sets in.

He'll change the world through his spirit, his mind and his compassion for those much more vulnerable than himself, especially the thousands of dead in Gaza and many more struggling to survive the devastating humanitarian crisis unfolding there.

Particularly given the ongoing violence in Gaza and the West Bank, the Burlington Police Department and FBI are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.

<div>In a cruelly ironic twist, Hisham's parents had recommended he not return home over winter break, suggesting he would be safer in the US with his grandmother. Burlington is a second home to Hisham, who has spent summers and happy holidays with his family there. It breaks our hearts that these young men did not find safety in his home away from home.
