This is an humanitarian campaign to help a family survive. You may be familiar with Hossam and his family from our recent GoFundMe campaign. That campaign has lost much momentum in recent months since the ceasefire. The Qudaih family still needs your help to survive in what is still quite a dangerous environment. They continue to live in a tent and subsist on small rations of food. We are revitalizing support for the Qudaih family through this new campaign. The donation amount is smaller so as to motivate more potential donors. From Original Campaign: Dear community, We would like to share an important update with you about the campaign to support Hossam’s family. Over the past few weeks, we have been concerned because the fundraising has stalled and donations have decreased significantly. Although the amount shown on the campaign page appears high, we are running out of money to send them (the commissions to receive cash in Gaza are still 47%). We know that, in general, Palestine has lost space in public and media interest, and unfortunately Gaza no longer appears in the news with the same strength. In Chile, specifically, the current focus is on the upcoming presidential elections. And it is likely that the next few months will continue to be difficult for fundraising: the end of the year is approaching—Christmas, summer holidays—and many people disconnect. Given the sharp decline in donations, we need to move up this support to ensure that the family has at least a stable income that allows them to survive in Gaza, where they depend solely and entirely on what we can send them through this campaign. We would also like to tell you that the use of the campaign funds now includes new specific expenses: -Medicine and supplements for Zain, who was hospitalized after the forced evacuation and sleeping on the streets a month ago but is stable these days ;) -Support for Moataz’s studies, so he can continue his education and complete his final year of high school despite the enormous difficulties they face. We are paying for a private tutor three times a week. -Help for Mohammed, who is currently in Algeria and also depends on this fund to cover his living expenses while studying at university with a scholarship. We are also helping him with a medical issue affecting his eyes that developed after his evacuation. -Food and basic items, whose prices have increased considerably due to scarcity. Last night the family almost freezed because of the cold and strong winds. They lost everything in the last forced evacuations and haven´t been able to buy blankets or winter clothing, as they are also scarce and extremely expensive. All seven family members are living in a tented area. Even if we were able to raise funds to buy another tent (as we offered Hossam), the camp is so overcrowded that there is no space for a second one. You will see in the photos. At this point, there is no certainty that we will be able to bring the family to Chile, and in the meantime they continue to rely on us. This is why we ask you, from the heart, to help us share the campaign, spread it again, and look for new donations. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a real and concrete difference for them. On another note—and some good news—Hossam is adapting well in Chile. He is surrounded by a loving community that is supporting him. He already had his interview to regularize his papers as a war refugee, and the government has offered to support him with 26 months of rent in a very beautiful new building (along with the other families who arrived in Chile through the same evacuation). Three volunteer teachers from the community are helping him learn Spanish, and he is very focused on learning the language so he can study medicine with a scholarship we secured for him. It is very hard for him to be far from his family, and this keeps him awake at night, deeply worried as he watches them suffer. Thank you for continuing to accompany us on this journey.
